WHat size cabinets do everyone have if the removed the safit? If you cabinets to the ceiling did you add crown molding? How much space between bottom of cabinets to counter do you have?

36" or 42" cabinets

We are in the process of redesgining our kitchen.
We planned on having 42" upper cabinets and crown molding
Our contractor came yesterday and measured - we need to go with 36 and crown molding bc we out ceilings are too low for the 42in
Def measure (or have someone from the cabinet place you are using) come measure so you don't get the wrong size

From what we have been told, lower cabinets are a standard 36", and you leave 18" of space between counter and upper cabinets - so working backwards is how we determined we could only get the 36" upper if we wanted the crown molding

Pretty much what jams said. You don't want less than 18 from counter to bottom of the top cabinet. Bottom cabinets are 36. Then decide what you want. IMHO you should def have crown moulding.

I have 8'6" ceilings 36 uppers then about 6" of flat moulding then 6" crown. It looks really nice, hard to explain. Our kitchen was big enough that we didn't sweat not going with 42s

Do you have any pictures of your kitchen? Does your cabinets touch the ceiling or a gap...I hate the gap bc I feel like dust will collect... What is flat molding???

How tall are your ceilings?

We have 42 and I'm happy with them. They added a lot of extra storage. I can't reach the items on top without a stool but that's ok.

Our ceilings are exactly 8ft so if we went with 42" that meant no crown molding
We wanted the crown molding so are going 36"

We went with 42" cabinets and have 18" between the bottom of the cabinets and the countertop. I have a pic in my album.

Here is a shot that was taken when we did the backsplash.

basically if you look, there is the cabinet, then a 1 inch think round molding, then flat, then a large crown molding.

we had custom cabinets done, so we weren't too constrained by what the manufacturers offered, my uncle actually did it, so we sort of let him figure out the spacing and molding. we picked the doorstyle, color, and crown. Even with the family discount it wasn't cheap, but it came out really nice.
