electrician costs - room lighting
we recently moved into our new home and had a friend of a friend (electrician) quote adding some high hats in our main rooms and center lighting in the bedrooms. I know it depends on exactly what we are requesting and our house set up, but on average I was wondering how much every one spent on something like this.
For example, the bedrooms. Right now, the switches are hooked up to an outlet in each room for lamp lighting. We requested the light switch be re-rerouted to a center ceiling light we would add, with a wire set up for an eventual fan in its place. Then the outlet changed to be continuous power so it is not controlled by the switch. We have closed walls but the attic is open beams which I heard makes things slightly easier. What did you pay for this per room?
The quote we received was for a lot of work, so he said he was giving us a deal as long as we do everything. Basically, he said it would be more if we cut out a few things on the list since it would not be as big a job as he originally quoted.
Just wanted to check an average to see if doing it all at once (I would rather wait and do some now, some later when we have had time to save a little more and we could see what actually house bills look like) is worth it. If you have done this, please let me know! :)

electrician costs - room lighting
We added ceiling fans to 6 rooms when we bought our house. None of the rooms had existing overhead lighting, but all had the power switch like you said. We also had the electrician pigtail ALL the outlets on the main floor and finished basement since it is aluminum wiring. And all the outlets and switches were changed out. The electrician supplies everything except the ceiling fans, which we bought. It cost us $4K for everything that we had done. We had an electrician that we personally know do the work.
I know they are friends, but after having "friends" do work for us, I now talk to the friend about it and get at least 1 quote from someone who is not a friend. That way I know if they are in the ballpark. So if you are not sure if what they are quoting you is fair or a deal, you can compare to a professional who isn't "giving you a break." KWIM.

We had high hats and dimmer installed in living room (no previous overhead lighting) and an overhead light/ceiling fan installed in bedroom (no previous overhead lighting) and an outlet installed in attic (for wireless surround) and it costs us $450 from a "friend." Oh and they replaced the panel cover in the box.

Re: electrician costs - room lighting
Hmm..the quote we received was for:
Master bedroom with overhead lighting/fan AND high hats
2nd and 3rd bedrooms with just overhead light, set up for a fan in the future
Living room and den with 4-6 high hats in each
2-3 high hats by front door on new switch
I believe he was going to switch around a few odd switches and add dimmers for the high hats.
Price we got was about $3800 for labor and materials. This seems reasonable to me, but not exactly enough of a 'deal' to do it all at once for the 'package.'
