OK. I just wanted to make sure because my student texted me that he needed to leave at 2 today.
I'm out sick and was hoping he could cover until my clients leave at 3.
Oh well. My boss is wonderful and will deal with it.

Anyone Orthodox Jewish?
I used to work of an Orthodox Jewish company. My boss would leave at 12:30 on Fridays so she could go home and start cooking dinner.

Re: Anyone Orthodox Jewish?
It depends how far he has to travel, but 2pm is not unreasonable this time of year.

They need to be home before sundown so it would depend on how far they have to go but doesn't seem unreasonable.

Anyone Orthodox Jewish?
I teach at a Jewish school, and from sept-April we get out at 1 on Fridays. Not unusual at all.

I believe it starts around 4:45 right now (give or take a few minutes depending on where you are, NYC versus Nassau etc.) - so having to leave at 2 is totally normal, because you need time to travel, prepare for everything, etc.

This.
One of my attorneys (we work in the city) lives on LI, so he leaves around 1-2.
People who live in the city leave between 2-3

There's been other issues with them so I wanted to make sure I wasn't being played.

Anyone Orthodox Jewish?
You're not. Sundown is at 4:28 tonight-and many conservative Jews also follow the rules of shabbat

Anyone Orthodox Jewish?
My sister worked at a school run by orthodox Jews, and during the winter they had early hours on Fridays. They need to be home and have dinner made before sundown, and these days it gets dark so early. So they have to hurry in order to be home in order to observe Shabbat.

It's the Jewish Sabbath, starting Friday night at sundown until Saturday at sundown, every week.
2:00 is reasonable to leave to commute home and prepare for Shabbat. It starts so early during the winter.

Every Friday night the Jewish religion observes Shabbat. It's observed Friday night until Saturday night.
In essence it's like Sunday in the Christian religion.

Conservative and orthodox Jews will observe between sundown tonight until sundown tomorrow night, as a day of rest. They are not supposed to do any kind of "work" - and many times they stay within their homes. Every person is different, but all of my sister's co-workers were prohibited from driving their cars or using electricity during the time of observance, and used the day for spending time with family and prayer.
In large orthodox Jewish communities, after the sun goes down on Saturdays, you will find so many people out and about running their errands for the weekend because they can finally drive around and head out.

Re: Anyone Orthodox Jewish?
I used to work under someone who was observant and she would leave by 1:30 in the winter. THe office and her house were both in the City. The goal is to have dinner ready and clean up finished - no work is suppose to be done after the sundown.

It's not just tonight/tomorrow. It's every Friday/Saturday
