Trying again. Pediatrician Rec. Nassau. 2 Doctor Practice at Most.

Many of you were very helpful with recs so thank you but as we interview, we realize our needs, our likes/dislikes. I know we will never find a 100% perfect place but I am trying hard to atleast make a really good decision.

I wonder if this even exists...

1.
Need a practice with few nights with evening hours, meaning past 5:30pm. Would LOVE Sunday hours but that is tough-MUST have Saturday hours though.

2.
1 or 2 doctors only in the practice- no Practices who have nurse practitioners seeing your child for whole entire well or sick visits. A NP contributing to the practice is fine but again, I want my child seen by a doctor for a visit. I dont mean to offend, its just my preference and from experience.
( I know that some practices say you have a choice but at times, those practices dont have a doctor in the office, so you are forced to see the NP). I would like a doctor available during all office hours.

3.
Anywhere in Nassau County.

We use Happy and Healthy Pediatrics in Mineola. Very, very pleased with the practice. Late hours. Responsive. Saturday am hours. Three (sorry - not just 2) doctors. No NP.

Have you considered going to one doctor in a practice that has multiple?

I always see 1 on the doctors in a group of 5.

Most pediatricians do not want to have a single or double practice because they would have to be on call all the time (with hundreds of patients, this is a tough thing & with fewer patients, they don't make enough $$), so they join a group to split call.

I make all my appointments, for example, on Mondays with my pediatrician & get only her for visits. In an emergency, I see whoever is available or on call.

Pediatric Profs Of Long Island in RVC

Dr Forgione. I believe they have some nights bc I worked full time and had no issues. There are 3 women doctors and they are ALL wonderful. I interviewed several when I was pregnant with DS1 and loved them the most. The office and staff were wonderful.

I haven't been there in a few years since I moved, but miss them all the time. Was lucky to find a new Doctor who worked with her when he did his residency at LIJ.

Good luck!

There are 5 Drs at the Ped I see. I only see one dr for well visits and for sick I will take whoever. They have never said no you need to see more Drs.

My Ped is open 7 days a week though Sun is only for sick visits. They are open til 7 or 730 during the week but again the extended hrs are for sick visits. They have Sat appts for well visits but they book quickly so you'd have to book way in advance.

If you are open to a larger practice but only see on Dr for wells let me know.

My kids go here as well. Love it. Wish I had found this pratice when my kids were babies. 2 of the 3 docs are also lactation consultants and include those services. I've never felt rushed through an appointment and love that the doctors spend more than 3 minutes in the room with you. They also have a flu shot program where parents and caretakers can get their flu shots when you bring the kids in for theirs--one less thing to do.

The downside is that as a new patient, it was sort of hard to get an appt.

Didn't post last time since you were looking for Sundays.

But...

I ADORE happy and healthy pediatrics, in Mineola. There are 3 docs, but I see just one for all well visits. I usually see one of the other docs for sick visits, and the third I have seen only 1 or 2X. All the docs are in really good communication though. Meaning that they read each other's notes, etc.
If you call them after hours, the call is forwarded to one of the doc's cell phones, and they almost always answer right away.
They have Sat hours, and evening hours.
Staff is really friendly and helpful.
They answer questions via e-mail (if not HIPAA prohibited)
I really can't say enough good things about them.

GL in your search!

Hi Everyone, thank you VERY much again.

For those who didnt see my previous post, we have a 1 year old and looking to change pediatricians. We are currently with a group and are not happy with the group "thing." We interviewed practices with only 3 doctors but not it's clear, that still just isnt what we are looking for.

We found some sole practiotioners who we really liked but they are all brining on nps or recently did. We understand the business decision to bring on a female (for teen girls and other situations and also a 2nd person for availability and things but we would like a 2nd doctor if that is the case (female or male doesnt matter).

Keep the suggestions coming please!!

Please don't take this the wrong way but I think you are looking for a lot from just one Dr (or 2). To get the extended hrs and days you are probably going to need to either have more Drs or a NP. No practice is going to be able to be open all those hrs with only 1-2 Drs.

That's alright. I don't take it the wrong way. Like I said, I know this is a lot to ask but I would like to see if it is out there. The other thing is that I did find a few practices with 1 doctor and 1 NP with the hours that I need- the only issue is the NP. So I would think that 2 people are 2 people and if I could find practices with 1 dr/1NP with the hours, hopefully I could find the same with 2 doctors. We'll see.

You may be looking for a "concierge doctor". A co-worker of mine loved his kid's concierge ped on the upper east side. You go outside of insurance & end up paying a few thousand more per year. He sends bills to insurance for partial reimbursement for immunizations & additional things himself. Appointments are made by appointment only, but the hours that the pediatrician is available for appointment are many more.

Personally, I love my group & don't feel that I get any inferior service, but concierge doctors do exist for a reason...

I dont know.. maybe I am and that is what I will end up with, however I dont think asking for NP to not care for my child, rather than a doctor is too much to ask out of a "normally run" practice. And I also understand the qualifications of a NP and that many people are satisfid with seeing one. I am just not one of them. I imagine I am not the only mom (parent) who would prefer a sole practiotioner and is a ftwm and has a dh who is a ftwd.

I appreciate the input and the advice but just looking to see if anyone out there uses pediatricians who fit the criteria. I thank everyone for any suggestion they have.

I switched to my current ped after having been in a larger group practice, and it is a VERY different thing! Our old practice had 5 or so docs. At happy and healthy, I feel like it is a solo practitioner, even though I see all three docs from time to time. They all know my kids, and they know me. So the fact that they have 3 docs only benefits me by the extended hours, availability, etc. I think they are worth looking into.

Hope you find what you are looking for!

My son sees Dr. Panteloglou. She's in Bayside, but not far from the Cross Island Pkwy. I live in Nassau and go to her.

She's a solo practice, no NP. Has evening hours and Saturdays. She's great with my son and very patient with us as first time parents. I never feel rushed during my appointments and we always have tons of questions for her.

I know one of your requirements is Nassau, but maybe you can consider her too. She's not that far.

Thank you both very much! I appreciate it and will definatley consider both. My child care (my mom) is in Bayside so although I live out in Lindenhurst, I might consider it. Ive had her recommended to me before so that is a great sign.

Will also possibly consider happy and healthy- also highly rec on here obviously.

We see dr martocci in garden city. Like him a lot. He does have an np but we haven't seen her. They will ask if you want her but you don't have too.

Re: Trying again. Pediatrician Rec. Nassau. 2 Doctor Practice at Most.

I highly recommend Dr. Lippman in Baldwin. Has evening hours as well as saturday and sunday, although I think sunday is for sick visits only. He has an associate (Dr. Rosenblum), who I also like, but prefer to see Dr. Lippman for all well visits. There is a NP, but in the almost 5 years we have been with this practice, we have only seen her once, and it was a sunday. You can schedule your well visits with whoever you like. I think sick visits you will see whoever is there (like I said, only once was it the NP, every other time one of the 2 doctors). Same day sick visits, very accommodating office. I think this office meets *almost* all your needs. Good luck!

Re: Trying again. Pediatrician Rec. Nassau. 2 Doctor Practice at Most.

I love my ped, Dr. Vicki Jetter at Baldwin Harbour Pediatrics. There are 2 MD's in the practice, the other is Dr. Alan Levine who I believe used to be in pediatric urgent care at Winthrop. The practice is open both Saturdays and Sundays in the morning; Dr. Levine is there in Saturday and Dr. Jetter is there Sundays. Weekends are mostly for sick visits but they do schedule a limited number of well visits on the weekends (those book up in advance). For sick visits you call day of. There are also 2 NP's there but you don't have to see them if you don't want to and they are never on call and are not the ones there on the weekend. There is also a day with late hours. I think an MD is there until 7.

I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Jetter. She is always willing to answer any and all questions. Has always been great when I've called even when it's been New Year's Day or evenings as happened recently since my 4 month old was sick. Last Friday I spoke to her (she was on call) bc my mom called that my DS wasn't well and she asked me to call back when I got home. Told her I'd be 30 minutes. There was traffic and it took me 40 minutes and after being home for 2 minutes she called ME, wondering if everything was ok since I hadn't called back. I've called in the middle of the night when DS1 was a newborn and even then, she never made me feel that it was an inconvenience (DS had been crying for 3 hrs, no fever, no other symptoms). Been seeing her for 4 years and wouldn't think of switching.

I was just going to recommend Baldwin Harbor Pediatrics (Dr. Jetter), too. I had no idea there were 2 NP's there!
