another spinoff...what would you think if your child were invited to a birthday party at a local playground?
DH loves this idea. I'm not sure I can picture it. 25 kids, 25 parents..... do we bring pizza to the playground? snacks?
I don't know. Just not sure how it will go over. MIght people think it's cheesy, especially when they all have parties at places?
Opinions please
TIA!

DS went to a playground b-day party last year and it was awesome! It was his friend from daycare's 3rd b-day. The parents brought pizza and cupcakes and the kids had a blast. It was perfect.
We've been to ones at party places as well and I felt the kids had just as much fun in the park - if not more fun.

Re: another spinoff...what would you think if your child were invited to a birthday party at a local playground?
I think it's a great idea. Here in NJ where I live there's a place called Holmdel Park. There's a big field, playground and picnic bench area. Of course you need permission since it's private. I have seen people come with plastic table clothes, tons of food (plastic bowls of chips, dips, other finger foods, water bottles, sodas, juice boxes, etc) to snack on. The family has some activity for the kids to play. Maybe a relay or something and bring cones, then free play. You can do pizza, subs, etc. Then a cake and other desserts like fruit and cookies to snack on.
I have been to a swim club bday party too. The parents supplied lots of fold up chairs for the families to sit at, the kids played in the pool and playground area and just went to the picnic tables for food, drinks, etc. For the cake part they called on the loud speak for the guests of the child's bday to go to the picnic area.

Not cheesy at all. I live in Queens and we have nice big parks where I am so people do it all the time. I haven't done it because of having to have a rain date!

I did a playground party for my dd's 4th birthday in august, It was themed a pony party. I ended up having to post-pone it for the following Saturday since it rained. I also had a pony come to the playground area so the kids can ride. A piñata, pizza delivered to the park and cake. The parents and kids all had a blast. I would so do it again. Just have a rain date.

I live in the city and people do this ALL the time. I think it's a great idea. Bring some balloons, order pizza and have cakes and goody bags. I love the idea but I would have a rain date just in case.

I love the idea and always wanted to do a party like this. I would find it more relaxing and do so much more without the rush.

Re: another spinoff...what would you think if your child were invited to a birthday party at a local playground?
Just to add I would have the kids play for an hour, 1/2 hour into their play order the pizzas all cut in 16 (either have it delivered at the playground or have DH get it) have chips juice boxes and birthday cake. I would bring a case of mini bottled water for the adults, couple of bottles of coke/sprite too, I would also have an end time on the invite so in case of the drop offs you might get at least you'll know when to expect the parents to come. You also don't want it to be lengthy for the parents, I would keep it at 2 hours.

I think it's pretty damn clever of the parents. As long as the kids have fun & it's safe, it sounds like a great idea.

I just realized from reading the other thread that your son's birthday is at the end of March. It's just too cold for a playground party IMO during that time. My daughter is early April, and we are always bound to doing indoor parties since the weather isn't warm.

I would love it, as long as the weather was warm enough.

I love the idea and would think it's great as long as it's warm.
Problem with many parks on LI though, is that don't you have to be a resident, at least in the warmer months if you wanted to do this? (Memorial Day-Labor Day).
I live within walking distance of Tanner Park so we never buy the summer pass but the cost to park there if you are not a resident has gone up a lot in recent years. I want to say it was something ridic like $40.00 for the day this past summer.
There is no street parking either.
I still think it's a great idea overall though.....don't want you to think I'm poo-pooing it.

I see this at Hecksher Park in Huntington all the time! There are picnic tables under a portico right next to the playground.
The parents bring in pizza, heros, wrap platters and cake. Kids look like they're having a blast!
