Those who have had the flu
How long did it last? I had a little scratchy throat starting Monday evening. I woke up on Tuesday feeling like I had been hit by a truck. I forced myself to go to work, but came home with 102.8 fever. I still had the fever yesterday and had to cancel my classes. I went to the Dr. and tested positive for the flu. I canceled my classes today as well since I still had the fever last night and because the Dr. told me to. I started Tamiflu last night. I actually feel pretty ok today. I'm still a little tired and I have cold symptoms, but the fever and aches are gone. Is it possible that I can beat this in a couple of days?

Re: Those who have had the flu
I had it just a couple of weeks ago. Started out ok, then was REALLY bad for about 3 days. Started to feel better then got hit with bronchitis and then the fever came back. So it took a good 7-8 days to start feeling better where I could actually function on my own with the kids. I still actually have the cough though. Doc in the ER said flu symptoms can linger Around for weeks!
Feel better!
ETA- I started Tamiflu the day I started to feel any symptoms

Re: Those who have had the flu
My sis just had it and also took tamiflu and beat it within a few days.. She was still very tired for a little while after but the worst part didn't last as long as it normally does. Feel better!

Just curious, with ZERO snark (and I mean it). Did any of you get the flu shot?

Nope. Never had the flu, never had the shot. But after this experience I will def be getting it in the future. It was one of the worst experiences ever . Reaction from the shot or not it couldn't be as bad as I was lol

Those who have had the flu
My DD just had it... She had a 103.2 fever when we were at the Dr last thursday... Started Tamiflu that night and she was fine 2 days later... Dr said you need to start it with in 2 days of symptoms.
She did not get the Flu shot

Re: Those who have had the flu
Had the flu shot, got the flu, and the 1st dr I went to did not test me because I had the flu shot - its bad this season, but with the shot its a bit milder- I was out commission 2 days - still feeling out of it a week later, and got rid of the cough a week after that...

This season in particular seems to be popular with people who had the flu shot getting the flu. I've known five people (three kids, two adults) who got their flu shot then later on tested positive for the flu. From what they all mentioned though was that they bounced back pretty quickly which they all believe was do to getting the flu shot in the first place.

Re: Those who have had the flu
Probably 3 days I was horrible. A week to fully recover. Tamiflu helped dramatically but it made me feel so loopy like I was on drugs

This was me. I am pregnant and I got the flu shot in the late fall. Last week I was really sick and tested positive for flu. I was very annoyed, but luckily (I think due to the shot) I was able to beat it in about 4 days and my fever never really got over 100.
Another pregnant woman I work with said her doctor told her that the shot does not guarantee you won't get the flu, but it will guarantee a milder case if you do get the flu.

Any side effects from the Tamiflu? I was scared to take it. Luckily I tested negative for flu so they called me to tell me to stop taking it (I never took it in the first place though)

Re: Those who have had the flu
In response to the earlier question, no I did not get the flu shot. I felt a little guilty about it, but the dr said she's been diagnosing a lot of people that had the shot. As for the tamiflu, I haven't felt any side effects. And I'm very sensitive to cold medicines. I have terrible reactions to them. And the best part is, I feel significantly better then I did yesterday and I've only taken 2 doses.

Re: Those who have had the flu
I had H1N1 a few years ago (during its 1st big hey day)
I'd say a week. I missed only 3 days of work due to being floored. AJ missed about 3 days of school as well.

Nope and I don't intend to either. Nor do I intend to give it to her either. Both of us sought medical attention as needed and really it was bad, sure.. like a bad cold with a fever and felt horrible but we both got over it. Flu shot wouldn't have helped us that year anyway so what's the point? Now we have our very own antibodies since we were too late for any medical assistance. It was the 3rd time in my life I've had the flu and her first. I think we build up our own defenses just fine.

They actually said "Guarantee" ?? because really there is no such guarantee if you get the flu shot that the flu will be shorter. Its only a good chance of it and only if you hit the jackpot and get the same strain you took the shot for and have no other health issues. Get a strain not included in the shot and the shot was pointless.

Re: Those who have had the flu
3 weeks and 3 hospital visits later I felt better. This was 3 years ago. I didn't get the flu shot that year.
I've gotten it every year since.

Those who have had the flu
I had it 5 years ago and it was the worst thing I ever experienced. I took Tamiflu but I started it too late so it didn't work for me. I had horrible respiratory symptoms for a week and a half before they subsided. Then the physical exhaustion lasted for almost a month. It took a toll on my body.
I have gotten the shot every single year after that bc I will never go through that again

Those who have had the flu
I was out of commission for 9 days! Started not feeling well, went to bed woke up with over 101 fever. Went to dr tested positive for the flu..never had the shot never had the flu. Took the tamilfu which had me vomiting by day 3... Fever was gone but extremely exhausted. Physically could not move or keep my eyes open besides my DH making me drink and drink and drink ( watervand Gatorade). I finally went back to work today and feel ok, just super tired. I will forever get the shot! The flu reminded me of mono when I was 16! Feel better!!
Edited for spelling
