Insurance
This might be a more appropriate question for people who already have children but some neurotic people that research everything before hand like me might know as well.
From what I understand, the baby needs to go the pediatrician fairly quickly after delivery. How do you go about getting them added to your insurance? I'm assuming you have to wait until after their born and get their social security number? When do you get that?
Thanks!

Re: Insurance
The insurance can be backdated 30 days - so while there is a "rush" it is okay if it has not been cleared by insurance immediately.

I believe you have 30 days to add the baby to your insurance and I do believe you need a SS# which takes about a month from what I hear. I believe the baby will be covered retroactively to the DOB.

Re: Insurance
for me, i called up my employer and they added DD immediately (even before i got her ss number). When i returned to work (3 months later) i believe that is when i gave her ss info I had no troubles at all

Re: Insurance
Yes, you have 30 days to add DC to your plan. And once the baby is born, they cover the baby automatically for the first month. They can be added even without a ssn....although it does come fairly quickly.
First ped visit in usually the week after the baby's born. Pediatricians will certainly have dealt with this issue before, so they will understand. If the claim gets denied at first, just ask the dr to put it through again. most likely it's just a timing thing.

Insurance
I have Empire through NYS and I was told that the baby is covered under me for the first four days. Once discharged from the hospital they require proof that the baby was born (discharge paper work, etc.) sent to them and once the birth certificate and SS card arrive they require copies. I was assured that all expenses would be covered.

Re: Insurance
Thanks for all the responses. The last thing anyone wants is to be stuck with bills and tons of paperwork. Just want to enjoy the little one.
