whole grain pasta ?
Now that DH and I are undergoing a lifestyle change after his heart attack, I need to change the way he eats and the way I cook.
What is a good brand of whole grain pasta, something that tastes decent ?
Everyone and their mother is giving him nutritional advice, and it is making me crazy. (I already cook pretty healthy, he just doesn't get it.) Like the person who told him that I should cook with olive oil. Hmmnn, been doing that for 25 years already. Take the skin off chicken, no kidding. Most everything is common sense anyway.
So, DH is having a hissy fit because I am making pasta with chicken meatballs (thanks NervousNell !) and I am using up my supply of regular Barilla pasta, not whole grain pasta.
We meet with the nutritionist when he starts cardiac rehab, so I will get some more heart-smart guidelines then.
Oh kitchen goddess, give me strength !

I like Trader Joe's whole wheat pasta. It isn't hard like some of the others. I hardly even notice anymore that it is ww.

Re: whole grain pasta ?
I love Barilla Plus because it has a ton of protein in it as well. Also high fiber and Omega 3's which are excellent for heart health.
ETA- glad you found my chicken meatball recipe useful. We LOVE it at my house and it's so lean! And for the record I use the Barilla Plus Penne for that- cooking it in the broth/wine mixture you cooked the meatballs in gives it such an amazing flavor.

I get Trader Joe's whole wheat but I love brown rice pasta. I think it tastes more like regular pasta than the whole wheat.

Re: whole grain pasta ?
I only use Dreamfields. It's expensive, but it taste like the real thing, and it has the lowest carb count out there.
I am a low carber, but sometimes need a small bit of pasta. My kids eat pasta and really like the Dreamfields. I know you didn't ask about low carb per se, but see if this might work for your husband.

Re: whole grain pasta ?
Thank you ladies !
I asked DH why the fuss about whole wheat pasta, and he sort of said I dunno.
He's not diabetic, so he doesn't have to watch his carb intake. He just needs to lose weight, more importantly, he can't eat all the cheese, dried salami, olives, potato chips, supersize heroes and fried chicken wings like he did in the past. He needs to eat lower and healthier fat and watch his salt intake.
I told him to stop listening to everyone, we will meet with a dietician in a few weeks.
Tonight he gets quinoa for the first time, and he's already acting like a baby about it.
