IVF in Long Island

Hi everyone, I'm new to LIFamilies. I actually stumbled over here while searching for places to have an IVF procedure done on Long Island.
My husband was very sick about 3 years ago and was on medication to address his issues until a week ago. According to his dr.s and SA's the medication has left him with an extremely low sperm count. They also believe that it will not rise after he stops the meds. We are crossing our fingers that it does, but we want to explore all options while we wait. According to my gyn and a fertility dr I had gone to, I am healthy. So all the doctors are saying IVF is probably our best best. I ended up hating the fertility dr I went to and I'm now looking for someplace to go to have a consultation about our situation and maybe start looking into IVF. We have to wait three months until all of the medication is out of his system, but I'd like to start meeting drs and narrowing things down ASAP so we are prepared for when the time comes. I know I can talk to my gyn about it, but he is in Brooklyn (where I used to live) and I'd rather start fresh in LI.
So, after searching and reading some posts here, I've come across a few different places to go and very different pricing! Please let me know of any places or drs you have had experience with (good or bad). I'm a NYC teacher and had GHI insurance. I've read a little about Long Island IVF and North Shore LIJ, but I'd love to hear about any place in LI. Thanks so much!

Re: IVF in Long Island

First off, welcome!

We were also dealing with MFI. I would suggest that in addition to seeing an RE, your DH also see a urologist. They may suggest putting him on clomid to increase the amount of sperm. This will take at least 3 months to work.

As for REs, I used RMA in NYC. They do monitoring in Garden City as well. I am not sure if they take GHI.

I would suggest that you look at the SART website for each clinic that you are interested in and check to see what their success rates are for male infertility. I did this and it seemed as though RMA, NYU, and East Coast (which I think is now part of LI IVF) had the best statistics when I looked last year.

Thanks so much! I'm definitely going to check out that website.
DH has gone to a urologist and they are hesitant about clomid. He had some issues with his liver as a side effect from meds he has been on that have also caused this problem. Dr said clomid could possibly cause additional liver issues.

With our insurance (I'm doe), Li Ivf is 1,500 plus icsi charges.
North shore Lij is 7,000 with our insurance.

I first went to NS Lij but left due to cost. No way was my 25% responsibility 7 g.
I switched to Li Ivf, but ended up not needing Ivf. I LOVE them !!!

Hi Lisa! Welcome here Chat Icon I think you'll like it.

I would suggest any reproductive endocrinologist that is recommended here. It's important to know that they will test you both and help you to try and investigate the issues before just recommending a solution for you alone (clomid)

Choose an RE that has hours for monitoring that are convenient for you, a location that will allow you to commute to work effectively, or sometimes as important, the fact that you are seen by a doctor each and every time. (also like the other posters mentioned, SART scores and insurance)

As for the MFI, so many posters on here could recommend an RE specializing in MFI, as well as affiliated urologists in your network. We have all been through so much, so don't be embarrassed to ask! No question is too simple Chat Icon

I wish you the best of luck on your journey.

RMA doesn't take GHI.

My DD and current pregnancy are both the result of Genesis Fertility. We're dealing with male factor infertility, as well as my DOR. Dr. Seifer was my doctor, but I am also a huge fan of Dr. Grazi (Seifer and Grazi are the directors).

If you look at SART data, they have high success rates. Both Seifer and Grazi are also named to the Castle Connolly top 10 REs list.

Genesis has a satellite office in Hewlett. Their main office is in Brooklyn.

Welcome to the board. Hope your stay is a short one!
