Dilating early in 2nd pregnancy
Yesterday, I was 22.4 weeks pregnant with twins. I have a history of pre-term labor and delivery, and last week was diagnosed with BV, an infection that can cause PTL/water breaking. It was treated with antibiotics, but at my appt yesterday morning, my OB did an internal (and an fFn that I'm waiting on) and I'm already more than a cm dilated. She said sometimes women just dilate early, but I've found google to be my worst enemy. I'm supposed to get my cervical length checked on Thursday, but now that I have the flu, I don't even know if I can make the appointment.
Anyone else dilate early with number 2 (or 3 or 4)? How did things turn out?
Thanks so much.

Dilating early in 2nd pregnancy
My sister in law was put on bed rest from 20-36 weeks because she had a short cervix and she now has a healthy eight month old. She went full term.

I would ask for your cervix to be measured today to make sure it is not short. Can you have your OB send you to a MFM ASAP to know exactly what is going on?
I am so sorry that you are going thru this

Thanks Cindy. She said it still felt pretty thick when she did the internal. I see an MFM, but honestly I feel like he never remembers me. I'm going to his office to get my length checked on Thursday, but I don't want to move it up bc I feel horrible going to an MFM office with the flu.

Thank you. I'm just hoping the doctor is right and sometimes this happens with subsequent pregnancies, not that I'm necessarily in PTL again :(

Re: Dilating early in 2nd pregnancy
I had a positive ffn, short cervix and was having contractions at around 26-27 weeks. Put on bed rest and held out till 34w6d and had a healthy 5lb boy! Hang in there!!! Will be thinking of u!

Also, try and avoid internals if your already dilated since it may introduce infections. Do not feel horrible going to the MFM with the flu. Call ahead and tell them you are sick and maybe they can have you wait in the car until they are ready to see you. You should know if your shortening as well since then they would put you on bed rest and maybe progesterone to help with the length.

Re: Dilating early in 2nd pregnancy
Were u told to go on any sort of bed rest? I had some shortening due to PTL and was put on bed rest at 22 weeks. I was not dilated, though my doctor was proactive. I'd stay home and put your feet up for sure until you have an official game plan.

Me! If you do a search for me you should see my post. I needed an emergency cerclage at 21 weeks with my twins.

Re: Dilating early in 2nd pregnancy
I prematurely dialted with my first and my 2nd, with my second i started funnelling and dialted at 17 weeks, i was put on bedrest from wks 17-36 weeks, and i had a cerclage placed, will they place a cercalge, technically you are allowed up until 24 weeks i believe. And you def should be put on bedrest, and also progesterone shots to prevent pre-term labor, with my 3rd pregnancy, i had a preventative cerlclage placed and was on shots from 16-36 weeks. I would ask for a cervical lenght today, and if its starting to shorten push for a stitch.
