Donations taken up for a co-worker
I have a part time job and occasionally cross shifts with a young woman. I like her but don't know her too well. A member of her family just passed away and I was told my co-workers are taking up a collection to give money to the family instead of sending flowers. How much money is appropriate when an amount isn't suggested? I really have no idea but, like everyone else, money is tight and a part time job doesn't pay much at all. Other than the manager who told me about the collection, I won't be seeing other people to ask. Thank you for your thoughts.

Re: Donations taken up for a co-worker
I know it's sounds cliche. But give what you can. I've given anywhere from $5-$50 depending what my finances were at the time. Every $1 adds up. And will be appreciated.

You do what you can afford. I would probably give $10. If you can only afford $5 that is fine. Its the thought that counts.

Re: Donations taken up for a co-worker
Thanks so much. I would love to be able to give $20 or $30, but I am relieved you think $10 would be okay. I would hate to be the only one giving such a small amount.

Whatever you feel comfortable with. I think $10 is perfectly fine! Any amount is generous and helps out.

Donations taken up for a co-worker
I'm often the one in the office that will take up a collection when a co-worker has a death in the family. I generally get contributions of $5-$20 and I have a lot of part time staff. I think $10 is perfectly fine.

Re: Donations taken up for a co-worker
At my job whenever any collection is passed around (whether for a death, wedding or baby) , most people chip In a few dollars- on average I would say $5.
How much you want to chip in depends on a lot of things- what you can afford, how generous you want to (or are able to) be, how we'll you know or like the person. I'd say any amount is fine, because every little bit does add up.

$5. Any amount would be sweet esp for someone you dont really know or talk too or even see that often.

Donations taken up for a co-worker
they do this at my co too... for death I usually do $5.
something like a baby or bridal shower I do more.
for the small salary I make, I figure the people with higher salary's in my company will give more.
