I need help flying!

I hate flying. Like hattttte. But I do it and usually medicate myself into a borderline coma. I am flying with dd to Florida alone. She is 18mos. What are some good ideas of things I can bring? Her lovey, a paci for ears and pressure, snacks, small toys she's never seen. I have an iPad. Any suggestions for apps?

Then can I bring water or juice or will the confiscate it? Any other tips? I don't get how I will carry her, a stroller, a diaper bag/carry on and all of our stuff but guess I'll make it work.

I want to throw up thinking about it. I HATE planes.

Eta - bc I will be alone w dd I will NOT be medicating myself. Which is why I am extra scared.

I'm sure she will keep you so distracted you won't even have the chance to freak out n

Yes you can bring juice, water, etc if you claim it for your baby. If not, you can buy stuff on the other side of security. Have her drink at take off and landing for the pressure in her ears.

Gate check the stroller and you will be fine.

I HATE flying also but I fly pretty frequently alone with DD. Having DD takes the edge off because I am so focused on her I don't think about being in a plane...
You can gate check your stroller and I always wear DD in a bjorn and put my luggage in the stroller so it is a little easier. Hope this helps! Have a sage trip!

Re: I need help flying!

We just got back from a trip. I was suprised (REALLY SUPRISED) how easy it was!

-Do not give DD the bottle until the plane is actually leaving (meaning you feel the acceleration and the pilot tells the staff to sit). We got stuck on the plane for de-icing. Had I given my DD the bottle when they moved the plane but didn't take off, I would have had a problem.

-The easiest was to navigate the airport is to put DD in the stroller and hang the diaper back from the stroller (or use a backpack). You can check the stroller at the gate. Be sure you label it. We used mailing labels. They will have it waiting for you at the gate when you get off the plane.

FM me if you have any questions. I'm happy to help.

i was going to say this exactly!! i HATE HATE HATE flying!! i take xanax every time i fly bc if i dont im practically throwing up from all the anxiety!!

when we flew to texas last spring with my son & hubby i did take a xanax (it doesnt knock me out or anything) but i did find that i was SO overly focused on making sure my son was ok that it really overtook my life while on the flight which was great!

good luck!! i know how you feel... i absolutely despise flying even with my comfort blanket of xanax lol

I need help flying!

Fisher price has a bunch of free apps for babies/toddlers. This really helped keep DD occupied on our last flight (5 hrs to AZ).

I usually put DD in the ergo through the airport, but if you're bringing a stroller, it will probably just be easier to put her in the stroller and use that to help hold bags.

I have a large Vera Bradley tote that's big enough to hold all of our stuff and fit under the seat, so I don't even bring a diaper bag. I just put all diaper-related things in that bag. (I usually put the diaper bag in my luggage for use once I get to my destination).

I'm a pretty terrible flyer too, but I've managed to survive a few cross country trips with DD. Good luck!

I fly alone with my kids all the time and I always bring a stroller and a backpack instead of a diaper bag. Keep DD in the stroller the whole time, once you get your shoes off and everything on the security belt you'll walk with DD together. Once youre passed just strap her in and take your time gathering your things. They will check her juice and water and youre good to go. Once at the gate check your stroller and you'll be fine. Not sure where you are flying out of but my husband used to get a gate pass and walk through security with me all the way up to the gate.
