People who have used care.com
How did you go about choosing someone?
Im looking for someone to watch both of my children (randomly). I got a lot of inquiries on care.com but im not sure where to go from here? I have a 21 month old and a 4 month old so I don't want to leave them with just anyone!

Re: People who have used care.com
My sister used care.com to find her nanny. she interviewed a few of them and they went with the one they felt most comfortable with, they also called references. Also they wanted someone who they knew was going to be around for a while (they have 3 young kids close in age so they wanted someone who was going to be there long term). They are very happy with their nanny, she's been with them for almost 2 years now. Good luck!

Re: People who have used care.com
I interviewed & called references on the ones I was interested in.
Interviews are very telling. We had a few bad ones, but a few great ones. The person who stood out as exceptional was pretty clear.
We found a better person this way than we did via word of mouth & personal references.

Re: People who have used care.com
We got our nanny from care.com. Once someone applied to the listing, if I liked their profile, I'd write back to them to ask for more information to make sure we were on the same page. From there, if I liked them I set up a phone interview. If I liked them from the phone interview, I set up an in-person interview. During the interview, I payed careful attention to not only how they answered my questions, but also how they interacted with DS. I made sure he was awake whenever I had women come over to interview.
Once we found someone we liked, I called her references. Once that panned out, I paid for the more thorough background check. Then I had her come for a few days while I was home to have her watch how I took care of DS. Then I left her with DS while I did other things at home. Then I left her with DS while I ran errands out of the house. She was paid at full rate for all of those hours.
Then she started working for us! DS was 7 months old when we hired her, so I spent more time training her than was probably needed, but it made me feel confident in her.

Re: People who have used care.com
Interviewed, background check, references, etc. I found some people to be flakey on there and they didn't call or show for interviews. Made it easier to narrow down I guess.
