Question about basketball hoops
So my new neighbors have positioned their portable basketball hoop in the street in front of their house overnight and all day for the past few days. Our street is congested and hard to find spots to begin with and now this hoop is taking up a spot. I always thought there was rules about this but can't seem to find them or who i would contact. I live in nassau county in the town of hempstead. I don't want to be a difficult neighbor but the lady across the street already gets mad when anybody parks in front of her house (to the point where she came outside and told my friend who was carrying her child to move her car). If i park at night next to the hoop and then don't go out that day I don't want to worry about the kids breaking my windows or anything. I know people might say park in front of my own house which believe me I try but there is a living assistance house around the block and there workers usually take the spots in front of our house while we are at work. if anyone knows who to contact please let me know.

Re: Question about basketball hoops
I have no idea but I would be more annoyed about the employees of the living assistance place taking up spots on the street. Do they not have a parking lot they can use or a designated parking area?
eta: I know I have seen lots of basketball hoops on the streets around Nassau, not sure if the rules are different for each neighborhood/town though.

Question about basketball hoops
Town of Hempstead you are absolutely not allowed to have one in the street. My mom called about the neighbors across the street from her, and a town official came down and told them it needed to be removed within 48 hours or they would be fined

It doesn't sound like there's a driveway and a lot of group homes and nursing centers need a decent amount of staff. That's kind of NIMBY sounding. JMO and not directed to the OP who doesn't sound like she has issues with it.

I would just approach them nicely. If they're new and have kids sometimes they just might be clueless.

I don't know what nimby means. Lol. I was just saying that would probably annoy me more than the hoop. Either way, looks like she got her answer above.
