Travelling with baby first time...car seat???

So here's the situation...going to Florida in June with the baby. She'll be 8 months. How does the car seat deal work?? Do I bring the base and then just put it into the taxi taking us to the airport and the rental car once we get down there? I wasn't sure how this worked.

If using the infant carrier, you do not need the base... The base is really more for your convenience. The infant carrier can be secured with a seatbelt.
