New here... PCOS and RE questions

We are TTC and I have just been diagnosed with PCOS by my gyno... so now what? She said we could keep trying for 6 months or so and then re-evaluate. I asked if we can see a specialist now and she said if we want to we can.

Any recommendations of an RE in central suffolk county? I know theres some in Stony brook but i work about half hour east of there... anything further east? I have Empire NYSHIP, it seems like they cover a lot but if anyone has that plan i'd be curious to get your input as well.

When I call I just ask for a consultation first? what do they typically do? I'm clueless about it and have been researching but it's confusing and a lot to take in.

It's just very overwhelming and upsetting right now to even have to think this route. I feel like we could keep trying but i don't even know if i'm ovulating so why waste more time.

Any suggestions to get ovulating on my own? my cycles are were pretty regular, 32 days, after going off BC 7 months ago. but then i had a 44 day cycle and followed by an 80 day cycle. I would love to regulate it on my own! I know losing weight helps, I'm not very overweight but trying to lose 15 lbs or so to see if it helps.

We have NYSHIP, and it's been great. I know with our plan if we go to a "Center of Excellence" we pay nothing up front. We will owe a $20 copay when we "graduate"

Wow.... I was reading about that on the nyship website but haven't called yet to confirm, it sounded too good to be true. You mean you pay NOTHING until you get pregnant?? then just 20$? That will help ease my mind a bit.

I guess I will be choosing one of them then, which RE are you going to?

The only out of pocket expense we've had so far has been the prescriptions. The clomid was $5 and the trigger shot was $7.

We met with LI IVF and RSofNY before deciding to go with RSofNY.

I was recently dx with pcos (a milder case) after it was suspected for years. I was going to be tested back in 2010 but I got pregnant with my DS first. I have gotten pregnant on my own multiple times so its not a death sentence, but can also be treated with metformin to regulate and shorten cycles.

I used to have very long wacky cycles and found that taking vitamin b6, possibly coupled with time and possibly also helped by having had my son, led my cycles to regulate to about 30-34 days from 40-50 days or longer. I also think acu helped, and had my most normal cycle after starting acu. So, there are definitely things you can try in your own too.

I called LI IVF and set up an appt on the phone. At that time, I gave them my insurance info and they called me the next day to tell me exactly what we had to pay for OOP. They also sent me a packet of info & forms to fill out. They are pretty thorough off the bat.

At that time, we were only under my insurance - UMR -and they pay for only the initial "diagnosis" appt of infertility.

In the meantime, DW had just become eligible for her insurance and we had 2 days to figure out her insurance - Emblem?- and if they would cover the rest. Per phone calls they do... so we signed up as secondary... as soon as we get the cards/ member IDs we will check in w/ LI IVF. *hopeful* It seems we would just have to pay copays. not sure how many yet (every visit or once per cycle?). The guy told us they even pay for donor sperm. From what I have heard that is not normal... who knows ! Either way it's better than $1900 + 700++ OOP!

NYSHIP doesn't cover donor eggs or the cost associated with their retrieval which is $$$$$$$. I don't know about donor sperm.
