If your baby was on the smaller side
DD is happy and meeting milestones, but the percentile charts have got me a little worried. DD was born at 6 lbs. 1oz and 19 inches. At six months she was only 12 lbs. 9 oz. and 24.5 inches.
She had good weight gain in the early months, but kinda slow down after 4 months.
She's pretty low in percentiles, but I'd figure I'd ask real moms- Has anyone else had a baby born around 6 pounds and how much did your LO weigh at 6 months?

If you're baby was on the smaller side
My DS was born 6-9 and went home at 6lbs. He is in the 5% for weight and has stayed there. His height was in the 10th and he has since jumped to almost the 60th. So because he is aveerage height and low weight he looks even skinnier. My Ped never worried about it. he said its more about staying on the curve then the actual #.
I have no clue what he weighed at 6 mons but he is amlsot 28 months and maybe 25lbs so he is still a peanut.
I wouldn't worry about the actual weight. as long as they track the curve.

Re: If you're baby was on the smaller side
My 4yr old was born at 6.3 and was 14.6 at 6m
My 3yr old was born also at 6.3 and was 15.6 at 6m
They both were always in the 5-10th% range! ped was never concerned because they followed their own curve perfectly

If you're baby was on the smaller side
My DD was born at 6lbs 3oz. I think she was only 11lbs 8oz or so at 6mo. Now at 16 mo, she's just 18lbs 10oz. She's always been between the 5th-10th% range and like PPs said, our ped has never been concerned either. She's been consistently on the curve and that's what matters! She's my little peanut!

Re: If you're baby was on the smaller side
I wouldn't be too concerned. DD stayed the same exact weight for about 6 months!!!! For 6 full months the same weight kept popping up. I think its normal.

Re: If you're baby was on the smaller side
Dd was also born 6-1. At her 6th month, she weighed 15-1. At her 18m, she still hasn't broken 20 lbs.
She had monthly weight checkups, and even extra bloodwork done and it all came back normal so ped was no longer worried. She's below 1% with her weight but she's following her own curve.

If you're baby was on the smaller side
My dd was only 6lbs 3oz when born. Shes now 21 months and i honestly dont remember what she weighed at 6 months. She continued to gain weight and grow. And at some point she did get her lil baby chub but shes always been a smaller dainty type of girl. Even know shes slender but continuing to grow and is happy and healthy most of all.
As long as your peds is happy with her weight gain and growth i wouldnt worry. He would def let you know if there was a problem. I forget what age it is but at a certain point the weight gaining slows down and acontinues to slow down especially the more active they get.

Re: If your baby was on the smaller side
Thanks all. The thing is that my ped is a little concerned because she doesn't seem to be following a curve. She is still young yet and she's developing pretty much on schedule with everything else. I know she's probably just fine, but I can't help but worry a little.

Re: If your baby was on the smaller side
At 6 mos., dd was 14 lbs. she was 6-12 at birth. But in the past nine months, she has only put on 4 more pounds than that! We watch but she is meeting milestones. Once she is really getting solid foods, push the good fats (ie avocado).

Re: If your baby was on the smaller side
DD was 6lbs 12 oz and 20.5 inches at birth. At her 6 month check-up she was 14lbs 14 oz. 26 inches. She has been on the 10-25% line for weight and 75% for height all along.
Did your pediatrician give you any other insight other than he was concerned?

If your baby was on the smaller side
DD was born at 4lbs10oz and went home at 4lbs3oz. at 6 months she was about 13-14lbs. she hit all her milestones on time. Except being able to roll over. she wasn't able to accomplish that until she was 8 months but my ped wasn't worried. now at 14 months she's just about 20lbs. she's still small. and has always been very low on the percentile scale

Re: If your baby was on the smaller side
how is she along the curve?!?! My daughter was born 6 lbs and only gained a pound each month - But my per wasn't too concerned because she stayed along her own curve - he just didn't want to see her drop in the percentile curve!
He said gaining 1-2 pounds is a healthy gain and a gain is always better than a loss!!

She dropped a few percentiles, but she never lost weight. She gained about 1.5-2 lbs. per month in the first 4 months. From months 4-6 she only gained 4 ounces per month.
She's 6.5 months now and by my calculations she's about 13 pounds. I'm trying to up the feedings and give her food like avocado to get her chunky. I'm hoping for a high number at the next appointment.

Re: If your baby was on the smaller side
My boys were 8 lbs 1 oz and 7 lbs 11 oz at birth, but both are peanuts (consistently 5th-10th percentile in height). They were EBF and gained a lot of weight during the first 6 months, but it slowed down a lot once they were more mobile. DS1 started out at the 75th percentile for weight at 2 months and dropped to the 15th at 9 months. My doctor just wanted him to stay at a similar percentile at his 12 month appointment, which he did.
I wouldn't be too concerned as long as she's following her own curve and gaining weight.

Re: If your baby was on the smaller side
DD was born at 6.8 and 19.5". She was always in the 5-10% for weight but got progressively taller. I don't remember exact #'s but know she met the "double" and "triple" birth weights by the appropriate dates. At a year old she wasn't quite 20lbs. Now, at almost 3 she is over 36" tall and about 32 lbs.

DD was at her lowest percentiles between 4 and 6 months. She went from the 30s down to the 20s but after 6 months she started to pick back up again. I think part of it was just being more awake, active, nosy, etc. She was ebf and it was hard to keep her attention on nursing bc she was such a nosy girl! In the end, it was fine and I don't worry about it any more. If you're ped suggested just monitoring it for the time being than I would try not to stress too much.
