Could I have the flu... AGAIN?!?
I had the flu in January. I had an itchy throat one night and woke up the next day like I had been hit by a bus. My body ached and I was running a high (over 102. Temp). I went to the Dr and tested positive for the flu. I took Tamiflu and felt better pretty quickly. I had a lingering cough for another week or two and then all was fine. This Sunday I had that same throat feeling. It has slowly progressed all week. I have a nasty cough and runny nose. I figured it was a basic cold. But now today I have a fever again. But fortunately, I don't have the terrible body aches. Do you think it's just a bad cold? Or could I possibly have the flu again? I don't want to go to the Dr for nothing, but we're going away in a week. So if I need medication, I would rather start and be done with it sooner rather then later.

It's probably just a bad cold... I would try combating the fever with tylenol or advil first and see if that helps. That's how I feel when I get a bad cold, I usually just take some dayquil during the day and nyquil at night to help me sleep.

There's a virus going around - DS 2 had it and gave it to me (since we were joined at the hip for 2 straight days). i have the same symptoms. Didn't feel great on Sunday but, felt like crap on Sunday night and have been coughing/stuffed since.

I've been doing Tylenol and tea all week and using Zicam. My body doesn't respond well to over the counter cold meds. I wish it did!

I always run fevers and feel like poop when I have a bad cold. It doesn't necessary mean it's the flu. Usually you'd have bad body aches with the flu

That's what I'm hoping. I just font normally run a fever unless I'm legit sick.

With the fact that you are going away, I would go to the doc, a zpac will probably knock it right out of your system (if you aren't allergic).

A zpac would only help bacterial infections, most colds and flus are viral.
I'm a nut about overusing antibiotics

So true! Some things just have to go away on it's own. Give your body rest to fight if off and if you still have a fever tomorrow go back to the Doctors. Take lots of vitamins, drink fluids and take Sambucol Cold and Flu if you have it. Helped DH! Feel better!!

Exactly! Especially with no fever, it's unlikely it's bacterial and that an antibiotic would help.

I don't disagree, but she's saying she does have a fever, and unfortunately, since she's going away next week, I'm sure she'd much rather take the zpack or other antibiotic in the hopes that it gets rid of it. If she weren't going away, I would recommend continue with the OTC fever reducers, and alternate between tylenol (or the dayquil, which has acetaminophen in it) and advil (ibuprofen) and take them every two hours (alternating).

Re: Could I have the flu... AGAIN?!?
I had flu-like symptoms twice since February but I don't know that either time was the flu. Fever, aches, swollen glands, etc. To me it didn't make a difference what it was called.
It may be a different strain.

I do have to say that last year I was the sickest I have ever been in my life- 103 fever for days, achey, chills, miserable in every single way. Thought for sure it was the flu. Tested negative. Either way it suckedddd! Anything flu like is never good- regardless of what they call it!

Flu comes on suddenly. If you have been sick with what you thought was a cold for a while and now a fever I would bet it has turned into a bacterial infection. You would need an antibiotic for that. But I don't think it sounds like the flu.

I've had colds in the past with fevers that were not flues.
