Nanny / Au Pair

Hi All -

I'm currently 5 months pregnant with triplets. I'm most likely delivering in August and will be staying home 3-4 months before returning to work. I'm starting to research a night nurse for the 1st month i'm home, and a nanny or au pair for when I return to work. Would anyone have suggestions on best places to research these. Or if they know of someone with excellent recommendations as a full time nanny or au pair. Thanks so much!

Nanny / Au Pair

My sister in law uses au pair care, but I've also heard good things about au pair in America. I'm pregnant with twins right now and I think we're going to have to get an AP too. Those are the two agencies that I'm going to look into.

Re: Nanny / Au Pair

I use Au Pair Care and I love our au pair. I liked the ease of au pair cares website and how you can look at every profile. There are a lot of au pairs from au pair care in my neighborhood and I really like our local leader. The only problem with au pairs is the time limit - 45 hours/week. It was great when my two older ones were in school, but now with the baby, I use all the time during the week and have none left over for the weekend.

I've been looking as well- so far only for a nanny and I used care.com. Tell me more about the au pairs. What do you mean they can only work 45 hrs a week? What do they do on their "off time" if they are living at your house? Tia

They can do whatever they want in their off time.

According to federal guidelines, they can only work 45 hours a week; the maximum of 10 hours a day. During her off time, my au pair is in her room, skyping with friends/family or reading or watching movies on her computer. Other times, our dcs are in her room and she is entertaining them, even though she is off work. On the weekends, we invite her to join us in our activities, but most of the time, she wants to just relax or go into the city with friends.

Re: Nanny / Au Pair

I have an Au Pair (we are on our second year with ours). We have 3 kids, twins who are 2 and and a 4 year old. When our au pair came, the twins were 10 months old and our oldest was almost 3.

She is amazing! I can tell you any info you'd like to know. We did have an au pair for 2 months before the current au pair and things did not work out. I'm happy to explain more via FM if anyone wants to hear.

We use Au Pair Care.
