PSA:Radiology Services done at a hospital
Just a heads up:
If you need an xray, CT-Scan, or any radiological test done and you decide to go to a hospital to get it. Even though you are not admitted, even though you are technically not going to "the hospital" and to their radiology facility, the hospital WILL bill your insurance as OUT PATIENT/AMBULATORY SERVICE. If you're like me, you have a Co-Payment for all outpatient/ambulatory services and you will be charged as such.
I had an HSG XRAY at Good Samaritan Hospital and was billed $150 co-pay for ambulatory services. Can't fight it because I technically was on hospital grounds at one of their facilities and. The hospital bills you for everything.
MAKE SURE TO ASK before getting ANYTHING done. Ask the hospital. Ask your insurance company. According to them, they don't have to advise to about the way they code their radiological services. Its up to you to JUST KNOW.
Save yourself money and aggravation.

God that is bull shit. I swear these hospitals and insurance companies are thieves. It is ridiculous and why our health care system is in the state it's in.

That sucks!!! I just had some tests done at St. Charles, and it was billed as regular radiology outpatient.

It was coded as Ambulatory Surgery
If I was made aware of the fact that going there instead of across the street to Zwanger I would be billed as such, I would have gone to Zwanger.
With my insurance, I have $150 co-payt for Ambulatory Surgery. Bc it was coded that way, I was billed that way. Oxford can't do anything about it. They can't re-code what Good Sam did.

Yeah, I get all of my X-rays and CT scans done at Good Sam since they have much better hours and no wait as compared to all of the other places.
I've always been billed normally, never as surgery. I just looked at the claim and I was billed for "CAT SCAN - GENERAL MEDICAL SERVICES - NY SERVICE CHARGE". That was a CT with contrast.
That being said - the hospital does charge more for imaging than those standalone places. But if I'm in pain and want it taken care of ASAP then I goto the hospital.
Did you ask for a billing supervisor at Good Sam, to ask why they coded as surgery?

I did. And got nowhere with them too. Been dealing with this for 3 days now and I'm exhausted. I think I have spoken to everyone everywhere!
Maybe they made a mistake but aren't owning up to it? I don't even know.

ETA we do not perform this exam, we can only assist. So it would be the RAD Dr or RAD assistant.

When I had a recent procedure done, the Rad Dr. was doing the procedure, and I was still charged as outpatient radiology.
