What is your go to main course when company comes over?
I like to make roast chicken and I make a really good one (if I do say so myself :)), but I am looking for something new.
Please share: what is your favorite main dish to serve when people come over?

Either roast beef, tenderloin, or roast loin of pork. If it is a big group, I may make a fresh ham (the whole leg). I like roasts since they are pretty much fuss free. Even better when I can toss some of the sides in the oven as well.

Depends on who is coming.
For friends, I'll often do chicken parm or taco night.
For DH's family, roast beef, ham, london broil, pork roast. For my family, always pasta.

Re: What is your go to main course when company comes over?
It depends on who's coming over, and what I served them the last time they were over. LOL So of my go-to's:
-Chicken cutlets and penne ala vodka or baked ziti -Filet mignon, mashed potatoes and asparagus -Mexican: Chips with guacamole, Chicken quesadillas, Tacos and Rice. I usually put out all the fix-ins for the tacos and have everyone make their own.

Pizza (ordered in!) .
This ......
If I have a large group of friends I do either "apps as dinner" or BBQ
Any time April - September it's BBQ.
I don't really host anything formal in my home. - it's all very casual and laid back. - Usually b/c I end up w/ at least 20 people at a time.
Holdiays w/ MY family everyone helps out and it's kind of whatever everyone feels like having - I don't plan a menu.
If I'm hosting DH's family, I have to everything by myself. so they get whatever the hell I'm in the mood to do ALL alone

I do the roast chicken, I also do meatballs, sausage & bracciole, & pasta. If it's nice out, we'll grill steaks with potatoes.

Re: What is your go to main course when company comes over?
For a dinner party type of gathering, I also do a roast type main (as long as I don't have vegetarians). I will do a pork roast, a filet of beef, a marinated London broil, roast turkey breast (I have an awesome recipe for that).
I do like that a roast is hands off... just pop it in the oven.
And usually the sides can be made ahead. I will do baked mashed potatoes or twice baked potatoes, carrot soufflé or corn casserole, sometimes roasted veggies, a salad, etc.
For really large crowds, I tend to do more Italian oriented items -- pasta dishes/lasagna, chicken parm or some other type of chicken dish. Or in the summer, bbqs.

For a nicer dinner, usually a ham, turkey, or lasagna. For something more casual, we do a lot of taco nights, chicken chili, or grill chicken, steak , etc if it's nicer out.

Re: What is your go to main course when company comes over?
The easiest thing I find is to make a pork tenderloin. We marinate it in Lawrys Steak and Choo and grill it. Everyone always loves it.

I don't really entertain much, especially in the winter. We prefer doing impromptu BBQs in the spring and summer. Usually burgers, dogs and chicken and lots of fresh salads.

Baked ziti or a big pot of sauce w meatballs and sausage.

I usually make shishkebob both chicken and steak and let them choose. A salad, pita, zucchini on the grill, baked potato, and tzatziki.
