I didn't want to continue to hijack the other poster's thread so I figure I would start my own. So as some of you know I took my DS to Silverman for a second opinion (more so to ease my DH's mind) which was basically useless. We waited 1.5 hours to see her and DS was a crazy cranky hungry mess. She told me that his diagnosis could go either way, but that it wouldn't matter what she thought anyway, because EI was going to listen to their evaluators only. That being said, should I even bother scheduling another appointment with a different developmental pediatrician, or wait until he is near 3 and transitioning out of EI?

I would wait. Let his skills develop, let him mature and grow, then get a 2nd opinion. He doesn't need a specific classification until he transitions to kindergarten. All preschoolers are classified as a "preschooler with a disability".

Unless you suspect a regressive disorder, or syndrome/other diagnosis that might have health issues attached (cardiac problems...). There is no point in luging him around from DR to Dr to get other opinions. What's most important now is that he receives approprite services and that he starts to close the gap between where he is functioning developmentally and where other kids his age are developmentally. Just provide him with a nurturing environment, work with him at home and give him lotsof opportunities to learn and grow.

If he's getting the services he needs, I would wait until he's older and find another developmental ped. My DS is 6 and I only just made an appointment. He did get a diagnosis in EI and was getting the services I felt he needed so I didn't pursue the developmental ped. If I felt they weren't giving him what he needed, I probably would have done it sooner.
