Need some help re: breast feeding/FF
DS was born last week and latched on great after birth to my left side. The nurses tried helping me at the hospital to get him to latch on the right, but was not successful as my nipple is inverted.
My milk came in while at the hospital and DS has been eating well for the last 4-days on the left.
I have tried pumping both breasts without any success to relieve the engorgement. Nothing comes out from the right and my breast is hard as a rock and quite painful. I can barely lay down to rest due to the pain.
Due to lack of sleep since I can't get comfortable, I'm emotional and ready to throw in the towel and introduce FF as that is what I had to do for DD since she couldn't latch at all.
Is there a way to relieve the engorgement on the right side without it affecting the side DS latches so well on? I've read to use ice packs, cabbage leaves, etc but I don't want to dry up my full supply.

I would see an LC, I know of other people who had success learning to nurse with an inverted nipple. Don't give up yet!

The same thing happened to me. I eventually had to give up because my son completely lost interest and just stopped latching all together and I had to ff. I hope you can find out what can help!

Do you think it's clogged? Have you tried massaging your right breast?
If you think it's a clog, try Lecithin. You can find it with the vitamins.

Have you tried using a nipple shield? I don't have personal experience with it, but that's what I always hear recommended for inverted nipples. And definitely massage and warm compress if you think you may have clogged ducts.

Have you tried pumping the right side while nursing on the left? Also, try hand expressing in the shower- the warm water and massage should help.
I would definitely get in contact with a lactation consultant and/or a bf support group (the hospital where you delivered probably has one). You need to work on getting him to latch on the right side too possibly using a nipple shield. You can also try pumping for a few minutes on that side to draw out the nipple a little and make it easier for him to latch.

Def try the medella nipple shield. I had to use it for (I think) 5 wks. It wasn't very convenient, but it worked! That will help with nursing. As far as helping to ease the hard sore breast, try warm compress, massage and frequent pumping.

Re: Need some help re: breast feeding/FF
a few things....
i notice that when my breast gets that engorged the ONLY thing that will get the milk flowing is DD. pump does NOTHING.
That being said, try the nipple shield to get LO to latch on and help relieve your pressure
I used a Nipple shield on both sides in the beginning then the right side bc my left nipple is larger and she didn't have problems. i would ahave her try without the shield as the days went on and then eventually weaned her off the shield and now she is EPB for 6 months.
HTH!
