Ptwm needs advice

I've been paining over a decision to possibly quit my part time job (I was full time for 5 years at the same company until dd was born). I am now paid a good hourly rate plus full benefits- 2 days a week and pretty flexible schedule (my mom watches dd at my house while I'm gone) Overall my employer is very good to me and easygoing. I know this is the ideal situation...but to be honest I don't particular like the type of work I do. My head is just not in it when I am there and at this point I'm not really doing it for the money...it's really just a means to get out of the house and do something different from taking care of the baby. Plus DH would love for me to really be involved with our family business, which i can only do if i free up those 2 days.

I feel like a heal for giving up such an "ideal" situation...but again I don't even like what I'm doing. I've been at it for 6 years and would love a change.

Any advice or insight? I would love some outside perspective. Thanks!

If you had nothing else to do after quitting, I'd say stay.
But you said you have a family business you can become involved in, so that changes my opinion.
If you can work with DH in that business, I'd go for it.

Would you want to be a part of the family business? If yes, then I would quit and do that.

I also work PT, 2 days a week. I don't necessarily LOVE what I do but I like it enough and it does give me a break from being home all the time.

Will working for the family business bring the same flexibility? That should be #1 factor if it isn't the $$.

If you dont need the money and would be interested in working in the family business than I would say quit.

Would your family business provide you with comparable benefits?

This is my question. I know you said it's not about the money, but what about the benefits? Are you carrying them for your family?

Re: Ptwm needs advice

Just wanted to throw this in here...

I work FT (so slightly different than your scenario). I have the opportunity to work with my husband (not directly, but in the same group). I'd be paid much more, work fewer hours & work closer to home.

I don't.

My benefits are better than his (and his get worse every year). My retirement match is somewhat decent (yes, we think about retirement).

I also think it's a bad idea to "put all your eggs in one basket". My job is VERY stable. His has been around for over 50 years, but is less stable. I can conceivably support us all if things go upside down for him.

This may not be your situation, but it's something to consider.

I am in almost the exact same boat as you only i dont have anything else to fall back on like a family biz.

Im miz working part time but we need the $ & my benefits. I feel like i half a$$ both my being a mother/wife and being an emloyee. Im never reallt fully there when im at work and when im home im stressing about my job. Constantly feeling like i walk a very thin line of being fired at any moment.

If i had a fam biz that was an option or any option for that matter... and it was something i would enjoy... somethung stable... i would take it without thinking twice...
