CIO question

This might seem like a silly question but I feel I need a little guidance here...

DS is 5.5 months old and I've decided it's time to try to CIO, things are just spiraling out of control and no one is functioning anymore. We've decided this long weekend is the best time to attempt to get this done.

When I lay DS down (anywhere) he immediately rolls onto his belly. He will stay like this briefly before he starts to fuss/cry as he isn't able to roll belly to back yet.

One of my questions is when I lay him in the crib for the night and he rolls to his belly, am I just keeping him like that? His head control is good and if have the video monitor on so I'm not as concerned about the safety of it, just the fact that this CIO thing might fail if he's uncomfortable on his belly, kwim?

Or when I go in periodically to soothe him should I be rolling him back to his back?

CIO question

If they are able to roll onto their belly, leave them. Most babies end up sleeping better on their bellies.

CIO question

If he can roll onto his belly I would leave him there. The minute my DS started sleeping on his belly the nights got better. He still didn't sleep through the night but he def slept longer. And he learned how to roll back and forth soon after that.

Re: CIO question

I used the sleep sack that wrapped around them (wings) and wrapped arms out. I also shoved A and A blankets under them on both sides so it was harder to roll over. Once they had good head control and could move I let them sleep on their bellies.

Re: CIO question

I don't know. I thought for sure DS would start sleeping better when he could roll. But now he can roll both ways, and he still will roll to his belly, get upset and cry. He will not under any circumstances sleep on his belly, and even though he CAN roll onto his back, at night he refuses to and cries for one of us to come save him. I think you have to gauge whether or not your LO is settling down while on tummy, and if not maybe reposition.

I would not roll him back over. Remember that the end goal is for him to STTN without any help from you. If you dont plan on rolling him over constantly then I'd say let him get used to sleeping on his belly. You may want to spend plenty of time during the day giving him practice to help him learn to roll the other way. He may get frustrated until he is able to move around fully and get comfy but they all go through that stage at some point anyway.

This makes sense, thank you everyone for the guidance!

I tried at 6 months & FAILED. I did it again at 8 months. I personally would wait until he can roll both ways. The crying will be more difficult to deal with when you know he is laying on his belly.
Good Luck to you
