Re: Need MAJOR career advice
Don't take a job solely for the money unless that money is life changing money. I would ask job 1 if they can match the salary & any benefits.
For $6,500, it's $125/week BEFORE taxes. Not worth it to leave a good position, benefits & flex job IMO.

Need MAJOR career advice
Thank you everyone for your opinions!!!!!! Job 2 is an extra 5 hours a week so my current job will give me an extra $1500 and provide me with 5 additional hours at a different pay rate so I can earn more until I get promoted. I do not have children right now however I know when I do I will need the flexibility. For me, I consistently am recognized for my work which is very valuable to me. I know the extra money I will be earning from job 1 will help a bit. I am confident I will be promoted before the end of the year which is good to know. Again I am not in the field to make tons of money however I feel that I make a huge different in the lives of the families I work with and I couldn't imagine not being there for them. I think I also didn't realize how little an increase there would be in my pay check. Like everyone said the benefits make up the difference! Thank you all for the help and support! !!!!! :)

Job 1. $6500 is not really that much more money and you are getting a lot of other perks at job 1.
This.
Stay with job 1 but be sure to get all their promises in WRITING.
It's one thing to say they're going to get you more money it's another to make a written promise.

Need MAJOR career advice
6500 is practically nothing after taxes and if you break it down biweekly. I would focus more on growth than salary. If you are established within your network that counts A LOT! A lot of times when you make a lateral switch to a new firm you are likely to get a 10-20% boost. But remember the salary will even out over time. If you're looking for a new opportunity it's one thing but I would not leave a good thing for $6,500, IMO that isn't life changing.

Need MAJOR career advice
Update as of 8/15.... I never got a chance to thank everyone for their responses. I ended up staying at job 1... and what would you know... I got my promotion within 3 months and they offered me even more money than job #2 I was considering. It was worth it to stick it out. I love job 1 and they treat me wonderfully. I've had a few bumps along the way getting here but it finally happened and in less time than I thought! I'm grateful for everyone's opinions and en courting job 1 because it has paid off!!!!!! Thank you all again!!!!

Definitely Job 1. 6500 isn't worth giving up the other perks of Job 1.

Job 1, no question
I agree. The $6500 is great. After taxes, more insurance etc....how much is it REALLY in your pocket?
If you love Job 1 don't leave. LOVING your job is better than the $6500.
This! And if you have to pay your tuition on top of everything else will you really be making more if the increase is only $6500?
