we bought a new washer last year, it was GE like our old one. We like it a lot.

Now, our dryer needs to be replaced. This was also GE but we HATE it. It may be just because it is old and pieces are breaking off but the edges rip our clothes and take all the buttons off. We would rather get a different brand, that had the lint trap on the top and no other pieces to eventually break and ruin our clothes.

We need to measure to make sure it won't look stupid height-wise but my question is:

IF you were buying a house and the washer and dryer brands did not match (colors did) would you think it was ghetto/ cheap-- even if they were both obviously new?

TIA!

No, I would get what you want! A few months ago, my washer broke. It was less than 5 years old... it and my dryer were matching front loaders (Kenmore, dark blue). For various reasons, I didn't want another front loading washer, so I bought a different brand white top-loader. Now, my washer/dryer don't match, but they are more functional for me (and no one goes in my laundry room anyway).

Buyers don't pay that much attention to W/D anyway, unless they aren't there. If they are new, it's a small plus, but I've never known anyone to really add value or subtract value or be turned off to a house because of the type of washer/dryer, matching or not.

For example, I recently sold a house where my sellers wanted to take their high end washer/dryer with them. They offered the buyers a credit, or said they would just replace the washer/dryer. The buyers said they were fine with replacements. Didn't care about brand, type, etc.

Re: opinions needed

I would assume they were like me, and did research on each individual piece. I did that with both my washer and dryer that we currently have. About a year apart, I did research on both of them, and after I got the 2nd one installed, I realized that they just happened to match! Chat Icon I never looked at the brand/model of the first piece when researching the 2nd piece.

No, I wouldn't care if they were the same brand. When I was buying my house (new) and needed to get the appliances, I researched the washer and dryer individually and got each one that had the options that I liked for each. I didn't care if they were the same brand or not. I just got both in white so they "looked" the same.

I wouldn't care if they didn't match. For the record I hate GE appliances. After a 3 year saga with a fridge that never worked properly, my GE dryer caught on fire. And it was not the lint trap, it was something faulty in the dryer
