Iui for male factor? Update! Calling all MFI experts :)
Hi ladies. Hoping to achieve a second pregnancy with male factor. Last time iui was a total bust and we got lucky on the first ivf. This time though I do not have ivf coverage and can't afford a cycle till December. I do have iui coverage. In the meantime while I wait for December to arrive, should I even bother with iui? DH washed sperm counts always hovered around 4 million. I would not be using any medication ( I ovulate regularly and want to avoid multiples) thanks for any feedback!
Update: my husband went for an analysis and the results were so much better than expected. Total count was 42 mil, volume 1.5 (a little low), motility 57 percent (I think it was like 15 percent last time!) and morphology 4 percent...I was a little concerned about that as it is low but I heard everyone is low nowadays with the strict criteria...anyone have success with these numbers? In any case we were "cleared" for iui. Our bank account is so excited :)

Iui for male factor?
I say why not, especially bc you are covered. You never know! 4 million washed isn't too bad... Meaning an iui still has a chance.

Re: Iui for male factor?
I say go for it.
I'm surprised your RE didn't mention doing b2b IUIs. Any count under 5 million they wanted me to come in the next day for another iui.

Iui for male factor?
It can't hurt, with a count of 4 mil I would also suggest back to back IUIs. Did your DH see a urologist?

Re: Iui for male factor?
Thank you ladies! My husbands issue is basically everything lol - mostly motility and volume. Morph is borderline. I just remember what a time suck iui was and how much all those bfns sucked and told myself if I ever went for another round I would go straight to ivf as it worked like a charm for us. We have not started yet. Last time I went in the city but I live out here now so I am seeing Brenner next week and maybe palter too for consults. I was initially going so I could price out ivf so I would know how much money to save and maybe inquire about micro ivf but I am just so antsy now. Once you decide to go for it, you want to go for it, right:) ? Thanks for the input ladies :) I will ask about b2b iuis!

Re: Iui for male factor?
Oh and he did see a urologist last time, but hasn't seen one since so I guess there is hope his situation improves!
Mrsm2011 -- if you don't mind, did you ultimately have success with those numbers and iui!? Thanks!!!

Re: Iui for male factor?
Yes, dh # was always below 5 million the first day. On the cycle that worked the first day his count was less than 1 mil (we had bd'd exactly 24 hours before) the next day was over 6 mil. I think that the last number is still low compared to what I've read on here. Due in August with my first.
Good luck, I hope the iui works for you.

Re: Iui for male factor?
4 million isn't terrible. Since you would want to do unmedicated IUIs the visits wouldn't be so often since you don't need to be monitored. I would try IUIs in the meantime. It can't hurt.

Re: Iui for male factor?
I say go for it. Our issue is MF and like your husband mine has low numbers all around. First time I went straight for IVF and got pregnant with a singleton. Second time IVF wasn't covered so we decided to pay for 1 IUI out of pocket and got pregnant with a singleton. Day of iui sperm count was only 2.4 million so I was really discouraged and expecting it not to work. I didn't have a back to back IUI.

Iui for male factor?
I suggest a visit to a urologist. We just saw one and she recommended medications for DH.

Re: Iui for male factor?
I say definitely go for it! I am 34 weeks pregnant right now from back-to-back iui's where my DH's count was 2 million the first day and 10 million the next day. The doctor told us that the norm was 20 million so we really weren't expecting it to work. Good luck.
