Where to live?
We are so confused about what neighborhoods we should explore. We can afford a home in the 600's. We saved a pretty decent down payment. We are looking in nassau county. As far as taxes go. I don't think we want to pay more than 15,000. Anyone have a recommendation?

What are you looking for in a town? You can buy a house in a lot of areas with that budget.... Nassau is pretty big if you add some other parameters that may help generate some suggestions.

Re: Where to live?
That's a pretty good budget for a house and a nice amount for taxes. You can find a nice house in most neighborhoods for that amount, so it will really be up to what you're looking for.

Re: Where to live?
Thanks for replying. I was thinking of a community with a downtown area, like Rockville Center. Maybe, Garden City. I have a baby and first-grader, so it is a big transition.

I'd suggest Floral Park then too.

Rockville Centre is a great area. Good schools. Have their own electric company. Nice restaurants. Great location and LIRR line (mostly express about 30 min ride if either of you commute). I like Long Beach, too. That's an area that people either drink the koolaid or hate. But it's a very active community, you can walk or bike ride into town which I like. We live in Oceanside, overall I'm happy here. We looked in RVC but were able to get a little more bang for our buck just south in Oceanside.

IMO, that's a great budget and the taxes are very do-able in many areas. We purchased our starter home last year in Farmingdale and I like it a lot but when we are ready to buy our forever home, we'll be going to North Bellmore or North Merrick. We rented there and absolutely loved the area!

If you like Garden City, I would look into Stewart Manor in the Garden City school district. I find you can get more for your money and the homes are lovely.

Re: Where to live?
We live in Rockville Centre and we love it.
Oceanside & East Rockaway are also great towns that aren't far from RVC.
My dad lives in Floral Park which is a great town with some nice restaurants & bars, my brother actually bartends at one of the restaurants so we go there pretty often.
Garden City is another beautiful town.
