for those that pump exclusively -follow up Question
I am exclusively pumping right now., i hqve noticed that o e tims one side will produce a lot more than the other, and then it switches. Is that normal?
Also when does milk come in? does it hurt? I am 3 days post pardum.
Follow up question: how long do you pump for? I read somewhere that you pump 15 each side or until your milk stops. Is that what you guys do?

I only produce milk on one side so I cannot answer the 1st question. My milk came in 4 post pardum. I was very sore and engorged.

Mine did not hurt when it came in. My right side always produces more than my left side.
ETA: I had DS on Friday and my milk came in on Monday.

I've always had more milk on my left side. I think it came in either the day after or 2 days after he was born. I don't remember it hurting.

I always get more milk from one side than the other and sometimes it does switch, depending on which side i last fed DS from. It shouldn't hurt when your milk comes in at all and mine probably came in by day 3 or 4.

I pump after DS nurses. I never actually time it. I look down at the bottles (on and off while pumping) and see that they are getting filled up. Once I see they are no longer getting filled, I turn off and back on the pump - typically I get a second let down by doing this. I then continue to pump for a few minutes after the flow has stopped.

I pumped only, no bf. At the months when I was at my peak of pumping, I would do it 5 times a day, about 25-50 min. each time, depending on the time of day, how full I felt & how long it had been since the last time I pumped. I would spend like 3+ hours a day pumping, it was crazy. I called it my part time job.

My left side produces nearly 3x as much as my right side. Pump for an additional 5 minutes after you empty. If you haven't gotten one yet, get a hands free bra.
I didn't feel my milk come in but I had low supply. Still do.
