flooring recommendations
We are closing on a house next week.
We need carpets removed and wood floors refinished in two bedrooms and we also need to remove carpet on one level that is on a slab.
We would like to get a quote and some ideas for what our flooring options are for the slab.
Any recommendations? I plan to call Gold Star which I see is highly recommended on this site, but any other suggestions would be appreciated.
We are in Huntington.
Thanks.

Re: flooring recommendations
Your easy options for the slab are: Carpet Vinyl Click Lock Floating Laminate Click-Lock Floating Engineered Hardwood The warmest option is carpet, which is why many people choose that on cement slabs. The Vinyl and floating floors are easy to install but you may find the floor 'cold"
Mid-level Tile/Porcelain/Stone The prep labor cost is lot and you could lose ceiling height
The hardest options are Glue Down Engineered Solid Hardwood A lot of prep work and material and frankly if you don't install radiant heat, I wouldn't do it --- too extreme subfloor conditions and the flooring will warp over time. Plus you lose ceiling height because the subfloor prep takes up room.
Hope that helps you make a decision.

Re: flooring recommendations
I'm sorry I don't. I work at Home Depot if you want to come in and I can show you your options, but I personally would find a private contractor to redo your existing hardwood and sub-prep. If you are carpeting, Home Depot has great installers for that. Message me if you need more info.

Re: flooring recommendations
We are in a similar situation.. we're refinishing floors in the whole house except for one room that has carpeting and is on a slab. We priced out engineered would and preparing for true hardwood (laying down plywood, etc) but it just didn't make sense.. First of all, it was very expensive. Secondly. it raises the floor as the pp mentioned and would mean we'd have to move the door (entrance) up.. just too much of a headache. Right now, we decided on carpet just to make it easy for us to get in. Over time as the kids get older I might look into a porcelain tile.
I priced out a few people. The top 2 contenders were Gold Star and All Star flooring. I have to say the prices were identical BUT I had a VERY hard time connecting with Gold Star. Several unreturned phone calls and for me that was the deal breaker.
I know many recommend them but my experience wasn't great. I can let you know how it goes with All Star... they are starting the work on 7/1. GL to you!
Also, most prices are negotiable so don't be afraid to ask if they can do better.
