Re: Side-by-side or French Door

I have a French Door one now. I have had both and love my French Door one the most. I feel like I have more room and can see things easier in this one.

French door!!!

I hated my side by side - I couldn't fit things in either the freezer or the fridge. I can fit SO much more in my french door fridge. So many more options.

I have a side by side and I like it but we have a second fridge if I need to put big platters, trays, etc.

Side-by-side or French Door

Side by side is the worst design- mine came with my house and it is terrible- the size if the refrigerator and freezer make it difficult to do a large food shopping.

Re: Side-by-side or French Door

I adore my side by side. We chose it even though we originally wanted FD.

I wonder if the counter-depth helps, because i never feel like I can't find things, etc.

Pizza boxes are the most difficult thing to fit, in my experience. And, when I had a party, the cake was stored at a neighbors house. Otherwise, I love it.

I had no choice when I bout mine 16 years ago. A conventional door doesn't fit in my kitchen because there is a wall opposite the fridge, and I can't put the fridge anywhere else in my co-op kitchen.
I am replacing my appliances later this year and looking forward to getting a french door fridge.

I love side by side too. I like the look of them better than French door. I have a fridge in the garage in case I have big items, but that is rare.

Re: Side-by-side or French Door

my side-by-side by GE busted after only 6 yrs. just got this whirlpool french door and i am in love with it. not too expensive. seems roomier even though it was about the same size as our old fridge. i feel like i can see everything better. we are using the middle drawer a lot even though we just got this fridge this past week! we keep all the kids' snacks and food items we frequently eat in this drawer and it's great b/c then we don't have to open up the whole fridge and stand there looking for awhile!

Re: Side-by-side or French Door

We have a side by side and I definitley wouldn't get one again. It is very hard when you have a lot of things to store or wide things. I'd go with French next time.

Side-by-side or French Door

I think I must have way fewer things in my freezer than most people. I've never had trouble fitting everything in my side by side. And my fridge is only 36".

Re: Side-by-side or French Door

Another fan of the side by side. I hate the drawer freezer of the French Door style. I do like the wide-ness of the French Door. But I'd say it is only once or twice a year that I have trouble fitting something. The biggest problem is an ice cream cake. I have a freezer downstairs that I use for this if I need it. I don't think I've ever had trouble finding something in my fridge. I think I'd have more trouble in the French Door style, with it being so wide.

Side-by-side or French Door

I hated the side by side.... It was the worst set up for the fridge - I also don't like too freezers for the same issue as follows : I forget about the food at the bottom because I can't see it. I like having everything eye level. My freezer less used (only for frozen meals - like big batches of chili, sauce, etc), so the drawer is fine for me - I actually prefer it.
