Why am I so confused re: a Duvet Cover

I need a solid navy twin comforter for my son's room. I am picky. I don't like the checkered stitching that I see on most of them. I found one I like but it's a Duvet Cover. So am I supposed to buy something separate? Or is that all I am buying as a comforter??

You also need to buy a down comforter as an insert. The Duvet is like a big Pillow case if you will, for your comforter.

You can put any old comforter in it too. Same size of course.

Oh, I agree. I didn't grow up with them, and didn't even know they made comforters this way until I was an adult. I have no interest in ever having one.

i grew up with only having duvets (and therefore duvet covers) and i loathe them.
yes, a duvet is lovely to sleep under, and its warm and fluffy and wonderful. But changing the damn cover is not worth it!!

as another poster said - its a giant pillowcase for a plain white (often down) comforter.

I actually prefer a duvet cover. It is easy to take off, launder, and press. It always looks fresh because it gets washed more often than my standard comforters.

This

But I do think it's a pain shoving that blanket into it every week. I guess for a twin, it would be quite easy. King - It's work out! lol But it is much easier to keep it clean

before i had my new machines I might have agreed with this though i would think you would want to wash the actual comforter it goes into too when was the cover but with my new washer and dryer I was my comforter every time I do sheets. separate loads but it fits in both machines.
