menu help

I am having a 2nd bday party for my daughter. It will be a saturday afternoon and we are having somewhere around 30 adults and 15 kids.

food that will be out while guests arrive:
chips and dip
sliced mozz and tomato with proscuitto and salami platter

food served for lunch:
mac and cheese (for the kids)
order a couple of pizzas (for the kids)
pulled pork (with buns available)
baked ziti
meatballs
I am at a loss for a another side dish? and preferably not something mayonnaise based like potato salad. maybe roast potatoes?
do i have to have veggies? i feel like it will be getting too heavy for lunch time!

dessert:
cake
cake pops

Re: menu help

I'd add a tossed salad/mixed greens salad.

Re: menu help

I would add a pasta dish like penne alla vodka.

ETA: Maybe also corn on the cobb.

Baked ziti is listed.

I agree with the salad. Otherwise I think it looks good.

Yes I know I was saying to add another option of pasta.

I am the first to add another pasta, being that I could live on it! I figured it might be too heavy for lunch time with baked ziti and mac and cheese. My mac and cheese is homemade and not just for kids so i figured some adults might eat it as well :)

Definitely a green salad. I know you wanted to avoid the mayo based salad but I love coleslaw with pulled pork. I would consider switching out the pizza for chicken fingers. With that many people a few pizzas might go very quickly since adults often don't understand the concept of something being just for the kids.

Re: menu help

the appetizers sound delicious. dessert is perfect.

I honestly think this is a little heavy for lunch. Plus are you sure the mac and cheese and pizza is only for the kids? I feel like a lot of my guests would have wanted pizza plus if you are serving them the pulled pork-- mac and cheese goes together so well with that! They might want some with it. Penne alla vodka would be another great choice instead of ziti. I would def. add a nice salad. You do need some sort of veggies/greens.

For my DD's 2nd (we only had 16 adults and 1 kid) but we did dinner and only served pizza and salad for the main dish (I did a lot of appetizers- like I did meatballs for appetizers) I did want to add a pasta dish but DH said it would be too much and it would have been.

Thank you. We did pizza for my other daughter's party a couple of years ago - and yes, you are right the adults did eat it too, but I get it cut in the skinny slices so it went a longer way. When it was done it was done. Maybe I will just do some chicken nuggets or fingers as well.
I know cole slaw goes well with pulled pork - and it my own issues that is preventing me from having it :) I will be 13 weeks pregnant and right now can't stand looking at that stuff let alone having to make and serve it - maybe it will pass by then!
