My son is eating oatmeal now. Once he gets the hang of it I'll try avocado and sweet potato.

Re: First Food
For those that did avocado first...we are thinking about starting there. How did it go with you DC? Did you puree it or just mash it?

I made my own baby food a lot in the beginning and as long as I made it very thin she ate it.

Same here. Then I did the greens then fruit. I added oatmeal after everything was allergy tested and only to thicken the purées.

First Food
LO is almost 12 months and we've had to struggle with food for him.
We tried rice cereal, then oatmeal, then apples. He started having a persistent rash that we initially thought was eczema but it turned out he was allergic to wheat and that's what was causing the rash so pay attention to LO's skin when you introduce new foods. If he/she has any break outs, back off of most foods and see what happens. The rash from the wheat masked the hives he'd get when he ate peaches.
I also think that Gerber's rice cereal may have cross contamination - he had a little left of the rash for a long time, even after I switched him to rice only, until I went to Earth's Best and now he's fine.
