Does Linkedin send automatic invites out?
I got an invite on LinkedIn from someone I have not spoken to in a while. I googled and some people say they sometimes automatically somehow send invites out. Does this happen? I signed up and never went back on the site. Now I am getting invites and not sure this person sent it themselves or LinkedIn initiated it.

As far as I know the person has to request you.
I have never gotten a random invite.

It would only happen if someone uploaded all their email contacts and sent one mass invite to all those contacts.

I know I just got an automatic invite from someone who just set up their LinkedIn account for the first time - it wasn't sent from the person who set up the account

Every time I go from my email to LinkedIn it will try to sneak this past me. "Lets get started" or something.
Point is its super simple to just click and go but when you do it sends out invites. I hate that so if I can't read what its saying to me (rushed etc) I just close it and re-enter. It either clears it or makes me stop to read what's up.
Its also why I never log into anything use my facebook account if asked. I will link my accounts to facebook if I want (like Foursquare) but I won't use facebook as my login.

This. If someone clicks the link to import their email contacts, it takes the entire list and sends out automatic invites to connect.
