Itchy Scalp
So I have eczema flare ups. I tend to get itchy rashes on my neck and along my hairline. I also notice that parts of my scalp are very itchy and flaky at times- I am assuming it's all part of the same thing.
Anyway, normal dandruff shampoos just don't work well for me. I have problem hair. It's super fine, super flat, and also dry and damaged at times. So I have to use a very specific type of shampoo and very very few shampoos work at all for me.
Is there anything I can use maybe before shampooing to help with the itchy scalp? Or maybe something I can put in at night, sleep on, then wash out in the morning? Tea tree oil? Something natural?
Just wondering if anyone had any cures.

Re: Itchy Scalp
I have this (eczema - NOT psoriasis) and I got this miracle stuff from my doctor that is the only thing that helps. The back of my scalp gets so dry and itchy, and then I scratch it until it bleeds in my sleep. Its gross. But this stuff helps. Its a liquid. I apply it at night like 2 hours before I shampoo (it STINGS at first) but in a few days it 90% clears up. Its called Lidex. I get the generic, though, and its called something else.
Also, here is a thread that I started like a year ago for the same issue. Maybe some solutions for you on here as well:

I use Lidex also. There is an over the counter version that does not work as well but might work until you can get to the derm.

You may be right about that. My seasonal allergies are AWFUL right now and I find my eczema flaring like crazy. I need to keep up on the meds better.

Re: Itchy Scalp
DS had it really bad. Mostly seasonal... the Allergist prescribed a special shampoo which worked amazing. Only used it a few times, but cleared up the first time we used it. The downfall is it's $85. We keep it in the safe... LOL! Kidding.
He's highly allergic to tree pollen so after spring he was fine anyway. Also made a big change when I stopped giving him milk bc it was also causing the flare-ups.

I have tried it all and I find for ME, Zyrtec works best. I once got prescription from the Dr, and to be honest, it was no better than Zyrtec for me.

Have you tried T-gel? I get an itchy scalp from shampoo and conditioner buildup. I also notice its worse if I dont switch up my shampoo/conditioner regularly

The dr told me to stick to zyrtex with otc. He says its one of the ones that crosses the blood/brain barrier whatever that means. I use the prescription version which is called xyzal. It's the same thing but, stronger as far as I know.

I tried T Gel years ago and I found it very drying to my hair. I do notice that build up makes it so much worse- even product build up. I don't like to wash my hair every day because it's drying to the hair but I find by the second day my scalp is super itchy!

I use coconut oil at least a half hour before a shampoo. It's an anti-fungal and anti-bacterial.

Re: Itchy Scalp
Eczema is a reaction to an allergy. The allergy can be anything: food, seasonal, animals.
I would get an allergy panel or if you know you have allergies see how you can avoid them. Obviously seasonal you can't avoid, but food or animal you can.
I agree with the PP about trying coconut oil on it. Also try pure argan oil. You can rub it in. My FIL has psoriasis and argan oil has really helped him.

Re: Itchy Scalp
Nizoral works for me when nothing else does. A few days ago I was getting itchy scalp again so I tried a trick from online and I put Sea Breeze, the astringent on my scalp before bed. It soothed it pretty well and I washed it out the next morning.
Also, a great shampoo is Brazilian Propolis but it's very expensive and I still need Nizoral also.

Re: Itchy Scalp
I've tried everything, nothing in the store. works.
What does work for me is putting regular white vinegar and water in a bottle. spraying it on the scalp and throughly washing it out. I usually leave it on for a 10 to 15 mins.
1/4 vinegar 3/4 water.
