Teacher materials for new school year?
Anyone have a list of what they buy and what they set up in their classrooms for the beginning of every school year? This is my first year as a teacher so I'm not sure what I should be doing... Also, looking to hear from Junior High and High School teachers, not elementary since you'll have a lot more things to set up for the little ones!

My husband is a high school teacher. He usually has me get him border for his boards, pens, pencils, plan book, and expo markers. You will need a thumb drive. I like the ones that go around my neck or I have seen the ones people wear like a bracelet.

It also depends if you share a room or have your own room and how much decoration you want to do.

If you're teaching a subject that has some essential questions, you might put those up above the board or around the room. I had mine laminated at Staples. I had motivational sayings around my room, too in addition to all of the Social Studies essentials.

Anchor charts (pinterest has TONS of ideas...just search for your subject) Try to laminate them Borders for the boards and paper (they make so many that are subject related, especially at caroles) I also like to decorate my door.
Yes, I'm elementary, but I've been in JHS rooms and the nicer ones are the ones that are happy to be in. Where the paper isn't faded and the boarder isn't falling down.

For myself I usually only need a few things such as backing paper, borders, expo markers, plastic folders(i like legal size too for tests), grade book and index cards. The school gave me a Delaney book and cards. Everything else I buy throughout the year if/when needed.
I also agree you will need a thumb drive - back up everything. This year I used Google Drive but I have a thumb drive in case the internet at school is down.
Then I always get some supplies that I know the kids always ask for when they are unprepared pens, pencils, erasers, sharpener and looseleaf paper.

I think it really depends on the school. I never had to buy markers, pens, desk calendar, paper grade or planbooks, etc. I prefer mechanical pencils so I usually got a pack of those and a few marble notebooks for myself. I liked keeping my lessons/answer keys/dittos in a binder so I sometimes had to buy those along with sheet protectors to stick everything in. Prizes for my prize box, sometimes fun bulletin borders, cute pointers, and a few decorations. I would check with your department chair to see what they'll provide so you can focus on things they don't supply.
