Kitchen facelift ?

Trying to decide if it's worth doing a few things to my kitchen or just wait to redo. Not sure when that will happen though...probably won't be able to redo for at least 5 years but probably more like 6 or 7.

We were thinking about opening up a wall from kitchen to dining room and adding a breakfast bar. We would have to purchase matching counter tops/lighting/bar stools.

Also thinking about refinishing my cabinets. They are in good condition I am just not a fan of the color.

Worth it or just wait??

We've debated about this also, but I think we're going to wait until we can do it all at once. We thought about replacing the countertops and sink, but we could also use a new stove & microwave. I was just afraid it would be a slippery slope if we did a few things, then we'd end up doing more. Or that it would make what wasnt replaced, look worse. I am worried that after I replaced the counters, I'd want to redo the floor etc etc. So ultimately we decided to just wait until we can gut it and not do piecemeal.

ETA: Sorry not sure my reply helps you at all! If you just wanted to refinish/paint your cabinets it might be worth it. In our case, we were going to end up ripping things out so figured may as well just wait and do it all at once.

We just opened the wall between our kitchen and dining room, and replaced the counter to the breakfast bar that was there. We want to do the entire kitchen over, but we figured this would buy us another 5 years, or so, until we truly figure out what we want and can afford to do it.

We did other work in the house, but that kitchen "facelift" was only a couple thousand dollars. The counter that we currently have in the rest of the kitchen is still in the stores so it wasn't a problem to match it.

ETA: A couple thousand dollar vs $50k to redo the kitchen is a big difference. IMO, it's worth a small amount of money for you to be happier with your kitchen in the near-term.

Thanks!
Yesterday I had friends over and I decided I am definitely going to open wall. It just makes sense and it will make my kitchen feel less cramped and the dining room more functional.

Off to homedepot to see if they still carry my countertops .. Fingers crossed. If I can't find those not sure what I'll do!

Re: Kitchen facelift ?

It's actually very popular now to have different countertops. You don't HAVE to match it to your old countertops unless you want to.
