Recommend a good beach vacation read
Can anyone recommend a good beach vacation read (paperback)? I was thinking of the Rosie project or Wild but not sure if those books are too heavy for vacation.

Re: Recommend a good beach vacation read
What kind of books are you looking for? Do you want something fairly light?
I know for beach vacation reads, I love Elin Hildebrand's books (all set on Nantucket). It's women's fiction, but a bit more literary or weighty than your average "chick lit."
Other books that have a similar style that I've read are "Seating Arrangements" by Maggie Shipstead and "Maine" by J. Courtney Sullivan.
Nancy Thayer has a lot of beach set/summery books, too.
Anything by Emily Giffin, Jennifer Wiener, Jane Green... tried and trues. They all have new books out.
In the women's fiction category, I also like Cathy Lamb's books (I've only read a couple of them, though.) Also like Allison Winn Scotch books and Jane Porter.
If you like more thriller/suspense, I read and enjoyed all of Gillian Flynn's books, and just started reading Chevy Stevens' books (just read "Still Missing").
Engaging but somewhat troubling reads - "Defending Jacob," "Reconstructing Amelia," and "We Need to Talk About Kevin." (All are mysteries and/or family dramas about troubled teenaged children.)

All of emily giffin's book (with the exception of heart of the matter. Awful!). I was introduced to them this year and I really love them.

I agree with Emily Giffin, I've read all of her books and they're perfect beach reads.
Sophie Kinsella and Kristin Hannah are also very good 'chick-lit' authors.
I read Girls In White Dresses on the beach and loved it!

Re: Recommend a good beach vacation read
Just read Sweet Salt Air by Barbara Delinsky. It would be a great beach read... It's set on an island in Maine, and focuses on the friendship (and secrets) of two women in their 30s. It has romance, family drama, good food descriptions (the women are writing a cookbook), a summery setting. It's a light book, easy to read (which is how I like my beach reads), but quite engaging.
