Debate my friend and I are having...Re: Titantic
At the end of Titantic, what happens?
(1) Is Rose sleeping and dreaming of the Titanic? or (2) Did Rose die and, therefore, return to the Titanic in her afterlife?
ETA: I feel that she very clearly died at the end of the movie and is reunited with Jack in heaven, which, for them, is composed of the happier times on the Titanic.

Or she could have stayed in her lifeboat and Jack could have saved himself.

This is a (funny) sticking point between DH and me. He insists "it's ambiguous."

Wait. Do you mean she died on that piece of wood? Or as an old woman?
If she died on the water, then who drops the necklace into the water at the end? I am confused...

She dies.
When she and Jack are in the water and she starts to say her good-byes, he tells her to stop, that she will die an old lady, warm in her bed. And then at the very end, she does.
ETA: That last scene makes me cry every time.

awesome!! Definitely dies an old woman at the end. What always bothered me though...she knew jack for, what, 2-3 days? Then she goes on to live another 60+ years with a family. So she married someone else and had children with him. One would think she loved this man. So...when she dies, it's just Jack? What about her husband?

Wasn't it just her daughter though? Maybe jack knocked her up in the backseat of that car...

She was alive and just telling the Story. She dropped the Necklace in the water after telling the story so she was still alive.

No... she said she then married her grandfather. I always thought the same thing. Jack did make a huge mark in her life by changing the direction her life was going to, but then found a new life after Jack.
Was it her daughter or granddaughter?

She lived and was rescued from the titanic- she dies as an old woman after dropping the necklace in the sea.

I think she meant when the Granddaughter (She) was telling Bill Paxton the story of her grandmothers life.

She should have gotten in the lifeboat.
Not enough room on the door Buoyancy is weight of displaced fluid. Assuming a door is 2m*1.5m*5cm, this means .15 m3 of displaced sea water. Sea water has a density of around 1020 kg/m3 which results in 152.9 kg that can be carried. But the door itself weighs something, too. Assuming a solid wood door and a wood density of 0.63 630kg/m3, it would weigh 95.21 kg. So that leaves us with only ~57 kg of possible "payload", which should be enough for Kate Winslet but already too much for Leo, let alone both of them. Sources: Wolfram Alpha.
Also, Rose isn't such a sweet old lady after all. I thought the blue diamond was an intended wedding present from her fiance who she planned on ditching.

Re: Debate my friend and I are having...Re: Titantic
She dies at the end and the Titanic and Jack are her "heaven" is my interpretation of the ending.
Mythbusters claims they could have both lived.
