How much food is needed for a BBQ?
I'm lost as to how many burger/dogs to get - also other stuff.
50 adults and 30 kids (ages 1-15)
Menu Hamburgers Hot Dogs Shell Steaks (FIL is preparing, not sure how he's planning to serve) Sausage (regular and pinwheel-on the grill) 1 full tray baked ziti 1 full tray sausage & peppers Corn on the Cob Salad (lettuce)
Going to have chips/dip out as people arrive and MIL is making mini empanadas as an "appetizer"

I would do 60-70 of each but I always end up with extra so I'm not the best judge.

I think you can figure 1 hamburger and 1 hot dog per adult. I would also figure 1 hamburger/hot dog per kid.

How much food is needed for a BBQ?
I once had a huge platter of donuts of various kinds neatly arranged in circles and it was huge hit at a beach barbecue.

I would do 60 burgers and maybe 80 franks. I would make 2 trays of ziti. We do one full tray for 19 of us with other food as well. Also with the sausage, either do on the grill or just sausage and peppers, not both. Your grill is going to be packed so I would just do sausage and peppers, two trays. For the steaks, I would slice them up before serving so you can get more servings per steak.

I think you should have more trays of baked ziti and sausage and peppers (at least 2 trays of each). And then 1 burger and 1 hot dog per guest.
and that donut idea is very cute!!

I would do 1 hamburger and 1 hot dog per guest and 2 trays of ziti. Maybe one more side like potato salad or cold pasta salad.

How much food is needed for a BBQ?
Last BBQ I had was about the same #'s. I had a big box of hamburgers from Costco and the big pack of Nathan's hot dogs on hand. I also had sausage and peppers and BBQ'ed chicken legs and thighs and homemade mac n cheese. I barely made 20 hamburgers and 20 hot dogs. Everyone went for the chicken, sausage and peppers and mac n cheese. Don't pre-cook the burgers and dogs just keep them on hand and cook as needed. I would skip the grilled sausage and do sausage and peppers. You can even grill the sausage and make the S&P in advance. I would personally skip the baked ziti, I never do dishes like that in the summer and in general they don't go over well. I would do a mac n cheese or other side. I would also do a cold pasta salad. I never do mac/pot/cole slaw. After serving it at a few parties and having it all left over, I skip it now.
