Do you put your DC's first name on backpacks?

It is never a good idea to put kids names on backpacks or any type of bag they carry.

I don't because I don't feel comfortable having his name on the outside for "strangers" to see. I pick him up and drop him off so that probably wouldn't be an issue, but its just a safety thing I have.

I write his name with a sharpie on the inside.

No, not a good idea. I only put my DD's name on her 2nd grade lunch bag, not my Kindergarteners bc they leave them in a pile outside at recess. She keeps her lunch bag in her backpack. I don't like visible names.

On DD's backpack no but on her lunchbox yes. Their lunchboxes are always piled together and it's easier for her to make sure she has the right one, alot of them look the same.

Nope. I don't think it's a smart idea and it's kind of unnecessary IMO.

Maybe im a neurotic, but i never feel its a good idea to put a child's name on a backpack for anyone to see.

My kids had their names on their backpacks.

I like the way it looks and I was never terribly worried about strangers. In kindergarten they were never, ever without an adult we trust, plus I'm constantly calling them by their names in public so it wouldn't be too hard for a stranger to figure it out if they wanted to know their names.

Never. Just initials and a couple of fluffy pet key chain like animals on the zipper so they can easily identify their back pack.

I did. I got the PB ones. I walk him to school and will be picking him up so I am not worried about him being around strangers. I want him to be able to find his lunch box and bag. He is a bit spacey and I thought it would help.

He didn't have anything on his backpack for K last year. This year, I had his initials embroidered on his backpack and lunch box.

This. Before DD went to school, I always said no way, but once she was going, it occurred to me that she'll never be without an adult, for a stranger to call her by name to abduct her. Funny how I had so many rules before I actually crossed those bridges!

We did monograms the first year with the Pottery Barn backpack. Once that was ripped up, I never opted to do it again.

Plus the other advantage if you get a backpack with a lifetime warranty, you can pass them down to younger siblings or friends.

I also used DS back pack this summer for camp where they went on trips or were out on the field for the sports camp.

I put it in the loop with a marker. The teacher asked for a name and I figured that's a place that strangers definitely couldn't see it anyway.
