NYC teachers-can someone explain how our paychecks are going to be?
Come next month, we will be on the correct contract and salary step. So instead of being paid for the 2008 contract, we will be on the 2014 contract.
Okay, so that will obviously be a pay increase right there.
Now how are the retro payments working? I'm having a brain fog. Will they be worked into our checks, too?

It was my understanding the retro was that $1k we got towards the end of this year. I thought it was all we were getting. Also, I don't know but a girl at work told me our checks won't change until sometime next year. March? May?

There was an e-mail sent yesterday to explain.
I can't find it, but the Sept. 15th paycheck seems to be unchanged. The Sept. 30th paycheck will reflect the new salary scale, PLUS the 1% & 1% increase that they are giving right away in a lump sum.
There will be another increase in May of 2015.
Oct. 3th we will get the retro per session pay.
The $1,000 at the end of last school year was just a signing "bonus".

No, the lump sum in the 9/30 check is the 1% due for the 2013 retro raise and the 1% for the 2014 retro raise.

I wonder if you are off of payroll on maternity leave if you would just not get that...I think that those who were on leave for the 1k signing didnt get it...

I am on childcare leave and didn't get the "bonus" and from what I understand, we aren't entitled to it. I don't know about the retro pay we are owed?

Yes bc on maternity leave we are still on payroll. Up to 12 weeks of fmla - we are still on payroll. Week 13 - we come off payroll. This is why I will not be exceeding fmla . But the first 6 or 8 weeks where they drain our CAR - we still get paid.

Okay so even if my days run out prior to Sept 13 check I would still get the retro bc w fmla I am on payroll? just trying to decide if I should borrow a couple days, it would only be like 5 to get me to Sept 30, I wasnt going to borrow days but dont want to not get the retro raise altogether if it is one time lump sum....

UFT told me borrow days n repay (immediately bc when salary is raised, rate to pay back increases)
I'll be borrowing 5-15 days depending on if I get the section.

NYC teachers-can someone explain how our paychecks are going to be?
You're not on payroll when you are on fmla..just the 6-8 weeks then you just keep benefits for the other 4-6

You are on payroll with fmla - you get paid for holidays and weekends. The UFT maternity workshop lady explicitly said that at the meeting a couple months ago.

You get paid weekends and holidays when you are on grace which can run at the same time as FMLA. For some people depending on how many days they have in their CAR their grace period runs out before FMLA ends and then you do go off payroll.

This..you're taking about the grace period option...which is only used when you don't have enough days in your car for the 6-8 weeks...you are off payroll after 6-8 weeks if you don't go back...I've been twice and my notes both times say that

Thats very frustrating because my notes say different. I believe you. I guess I'm coming off payroll for two weeks :(

Just follow up with it--- I was taken off of payroll TWO years after I had my baby. My payroll secretary messed up something And it took 3 months for me to get paid again. Absolutely horrible.

Re: NYC teachers-can someone explain how our paychecks are going to be?
The UFT has a timeline that clarified things a little bit for me. NYC Teacher Salary Timeline- New Contract
Still holding my breath for that per session retro pay- seems too good to be true!!
