if you have inground pool....

do you have salt or chlorine??
We want salt, but one of my friends who worked for a pool company told me we have full sun and the salt will turn green?? Any truth to that??

chlorine... can't speak to the salt. We removed a tree in our backyard specifically to get full sun, this summer (our 3rd summer with the pool) we have FINALLY figured out the chemicals and everything stayed perfectly blue the whole summer - we had NO algae issues, NO green, NOTHING... it was perfect crystal blue! I'm so sad we're closing tomorrow since we didn't get to use it very much.

I have chlorine, but would like to convert to salt. I have never heard that about salt turning green in the sun. I don't think its true as so many people out east have salt and are in full sun.

Maybe, talk to a few different companies to find out their opinions.

Our pool company talked us out of converting bc the salt eats away at the liner and ladder over time. Not sure if they have developed stuff for salt water yet

As long as you test your water and keep the levels good this shouldn't be an issue.

It could be if you had a metal walled pool, but if you have a concrete wall or fiberglass I don't think salt will corrode.

Plus I have a 30 year warranty on my liner

We have salt and it's in full sun. It is our 3rd year with the pool. This year we switched pool companies and once it did turn green when we were away, but I think it was the pool company we switched to not being as good, because we didn't have a problem for the first 2 years, and they fixed it and it didn't happen again.

This is our second pool with Salt. The first we converted and used it 3 years with no problem.
This pool, this is our second season. No problems. We did have some allgea this year but that was because we added water to the pool (a significant amount) and didn't add additional salt. We shocked it and that was it. So in 5 years this is a first for us.

As far as being a corrosive, so is chlorine. Our old pool needed a new liner and when we pooled off the old one, 2 panels needed to be replaced because the chorine ate through it.

I prefer the salt. It is cleaner, I don't have to worry about my kids eyes burning or that chemical smell.

My husband owns a pool company and there's no truth to that. Ours is salt and is in full sun about 8-10 hours a day and we never had any issues with that. As far as salt eating away at the liner, that's not true either unless you were to dump an insane amount of salt in. But your system will tell you when you need to add salt or if you should add water should there ever be too much salt in it.
