12 month dr app and blood work
Did anyone take their LO to get their blood work done at 12 month ? Do they take blood from a finger? My dd is almost 14 month old now and i still hesitant to take her to the lab. Our doctor doesn't do it at her office so I need to take her to Quest diagnostics... I'm so afraid they will take her blood from a vain that I can't imagine taking her by myself.

I took DS to Quest for both his 1 and 2 year bloodwork. They do take it from the vein. Me and DH both had to be there to restrain him

both 1 & 2 YO blood work was done in a lab via the arm. My DS was great with it and didn't even flinch. I did research on labs that were good with kids and made sure that person was working the day I went.

I was told if the ped office does it, its in the finger but if you go to a lab its in the arm

We did it at the lab from the arm. I have friends who had the blood taken from their child's finger......I think it depends on where you go

Yeah I put that off until after 2 because I was so freaked out by it. Finally DH just took her because I can't deal with stuff like that. Good Sam has a lab that is great with kids. He said it was so fast and she did great.

Good Sam is awesome if you are worried. They had three people help and they were so quick DD barely even cared. I had tried labcorp twice and with only one person plus myself to hold DD and keep her arm still it was awful and after two separate visits and lots of pricks where they didn't get the sample I went to Good Sam.

I was so nervous also! I went to Good Sam and they were fantastic. I held my ds, a tech held his arm, and another tech got the blood from his vein the first shot. He really was more crying because he always cries now when he sees doctors. But when the needle went in he didnt cry anymore which I assume means he barely felt it

Re: 12 month dr app and blood work
I was really nervous too, esp bc my dr does do it in the office but was unable to find my DD's vein. The good thing about the lab is that's their specialty. Drawing blood is all they do- all day, everyday. The girl who drew DD's blood was so quick and accurate, it was over before DD or I even knew it. Good luck!
ETA: This was at the NSLIJ across from Southside Hospital in Bay Shore. I've heard great things about Good Sam too.

We took DS to Quest and it was easy. Over in 30 seconds. When you make the appt, just choose pediatric blood draw and you get someone experienced. We brought a video for DS to watch so he was distracted and then it was over.

Re: 12 month dr app and blood work
Most labs I have been to are very good bc that's all they do all day long. They know what to do with toddlers and kids. DS cried, but that was even before they put in the needle bc he didn't like being held down. He was more upset about being held and they were done so fast he didn't even know about the needle. I think the arm is easier and less painful than the finger. JMO

DD is 13 1/2 mos and I've also been putting it off for the same reasons. I'm going to look into Good Sam and hope they take my insurance. I'm going to have DH go with me because I can't deal with it alone.

Our dr does it in office from the finger. It was pretty bad because after the prick they kept squeezing to get the blood out. DD was trying to pull her hand away, and kicking. Maybe the arm draw would be better...

I was nervous about the arm for DD as well, because those chubby arms have like no visible veins! LOL
But I remember being a kid and getting the finger prick and that hurt SOOO much more than when they do it from your arm. It was like pricking yourself with a needle and then the squeezing.
I really prefer the arm for myself so I have to imagine it's easier on them too!

12 month dr app and blood work
I wrote the same post as you almost a year ago. I held off the blood draw b/c I was so anxious about it. They did it from the arm in the doctor's office (and they did it again at age 2). Both times it was over very quickly and was not traumatic at all.

Re: 12 month dr app and blood work
We went to quest. Tell them it's for a 12 month old. My daughter got it done in the arm. Actually heard it's less painful than the finger prick. Not gonna lie, I had to hold her down and she screamed. But it lasted less than a minute and was fine by the time we got home.

DD had bloodwork at her 12 month appointment. They did it right at the ped office. It was from her finger.

Re: 12 month dr app and blood work
I've been holding off on my 2.5 year old supposed to get blood work ive been anxious about it since I got the script at 2 year apt. Also has to go to s lab. Somne one on here wrecommended s a place I have to check my pm box cause I too had wrote on here about this.
We did for one year and had to hold him down it was not too bad after he was fine but I know this time will be worse now that older and with his temper and sensitivity he ll be bent out ta shape the rest of day

Re: 12 month dr app and blood work
We had to take DS to the lab for 1 year blood draw. He actually handled it better than we expected. he didn't know any better until he felt it and we had to hold him, but they didn't have to take too much so it was quick. We definitely had to hold him still though. And I had cookies with me to give him the second it was over
