Devastated
So I was all excited to go into today for my IUI...everything was looking good on my end. The lab gives me my DH's count after wash and i just burst out into tears. I know DH has MI issues but i really thought that his count would be higher than 2MIL after wash and 53% Motility. His count before wash was 15Mil. I am so sad and can't stop crying.

Something similar happened to me. My DH has a low count and when we went in for an IUI they did the wash and they had 0 left! Nothing it was devastating and I know how awful that news can be. My DH's urologist told him that we should skip IUI's with his numbers (pre-wash it was about 1 million-5 million tops). I wish you the best.

Re: Devastated
I'm sorry I know for my IUI cycles it doesn't make sense either. Some IUI's my DH has a low count and others decent... I never know why there is such a variation.

Thank You! I am thinking that IUI's are a waste of $ for us and we will need to move onto IVF

Similar situation for us, too. DH's best numbers post wash never were higher than 2 million with motility around 40ish%. We did 4 IUI's, all BFN. We (along with our doctor) decided it was time to move on to IVF. We transferred one 3-day 8 cell embryo on August 8th and I'm currently 7 weeks pregnant! It worked on the 1st try and I honestly think we could have IUI'd until the cows came home and it wouldn't have worked. You are your own best advocate -- if you think it's time to move on, make it known!

I am so very sorry. See what the outcome is in 2 weeks and sit down with your doctor and discuss next steps and possibly moving on. Sending you tons of love and hugs

Will your insurance cover IVF? If yes, try that.....it's your best bet.

Nope...insurance doesn't even cover IUI. We paid 1900 plus meds this month for IUI

Sorry to hear this. If your insurance doesn't cover anything it maybe best to move on. But I'd get your REs opinion.

Re: Devastated
Same thing happened to us a couple months ago. Post wash my husbands numbers were 300,000 and we didn't do it. Last month we tried again and it was only 500,000. We're taking this month off and going for IVF next month. Has your husband seen a urologist? My husband is getting a second opinion Wednesday (previous doctor said nothing was wrong).
Good luck!!

Yes he went to Dr. Girardi and she said that he has a slight case of Vericocle(which is cause of his low count) but she doesn't seem to think surgery is necessary. She won't prescribe him Clomid for his count since his Testosterone level is great. UGH!

That's who my husband is going to see tomorrow!! It's funny how they can give us so many medications for the IUI and yet won't prescribe something for the man to give them a little boost.

Re: Devastated
sorry...i know how devestating that could be.
my very last IUI DH's count was low, under 3 mil, i cant remember what the motility rate, but i ended up getting pregnant that cycle. I ended up miscarrying, but, it still worked...
read your other post about Dr Brenner...yes, he's wonderful!

I'm so sorry. If you decided to do another IUI maye you can have your DH go in ahead of time and freeze his sperm as an insurance policy. We had to do a few of those when we did ivf so that way we were sure there was some to use and the whole cycle wasn't cancelled. Again so sorry
