endometriosis
Hi, I am looking for anyone going through this with any kind of advice. I was recently diagnosed and had laparascopic surgery about a week ago and now the dr wants me to start on Lupron. Anyone with any thoughts? Thanks a lot.

Re: endometriosis
Did the laparoscopy remove all the endometriosis? If so, you may want to try naturally for a few months before Lupron. That's what happened for me. If not, Lupron is supposedly good for cleaning you out and giving you a fresh start, however the side effects can be difficult.

Re: endometriosis
I guess I didn't specify that I'm not TTC right now but the girls on NFR board thought I might get more help on this board. I have virtually no symptoms of endometriosis but obviously it needs to be controlled, just not too sure what all my options are or questions to ask the md.

Re: endometriosis
Ah, I see. I had no symptoms either. My doctor said if left uncontrolled, it can come back within 3-6 months. I think there are many posts on here (and on infertility board) that discuss Lupron - you should do a search. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Re: endometriosis
What prompted your dr. to test you for this? I always worried aobut this b/c i have horrible periods. But my dr. never seemed overly concerned.

Re: endometriosis
I had lapro for endo about 8 years ago and did not go on Lupron. I went on the pill and used some herbal remedies and have not had symptoms for several years, and I got pregnant easily, so I think I was able to control the endo pretty well without the Lupron.
However, I don't know how severe your case is. I had severe pain, but my official diagnosis was mild endometriosis. I was really concerned about the side effects of Lupron so I chose not to go on it.

Re: endometriosis
Hello...
My decision was based on different circumstances so I'm not sure if it'll help. I had a LAP done because of severe Endo (Stage IV) on 12/2/05. They removed VERY large cysts but couldn't remove the remaining Endo because it was too much. My RE insisted that I do the Lupron for 6 months to clear out the remaining Endo, but since we did want to TTC at some point this year, we decided not to do the Lupron and try on our own. From what I was told the Lupron puts you in temporary menopause, in which you may or may not experience all of those symptoms associated with it, and I didn't want to put my body through that. I was worried about my system getting all messed up and having to wait until it cleared itself up hopefully, and I just didn't want to take that chance. But also on top of that I was told that I could never get PG again. I was beyond devastated at that point. So my DH and I decided that since I was really uncomfortable with taking the Lupron, that we would try on our own first and for about 6 months and then if we didn't get PG that we would do the Lupron because I had to do something since my Endo was too advanced to just take brith control pills. Well, I had the surgery on 12/2 and I got PG around New Year's Eve! We were shocked!!! I thought it was going to be a while before we got PG. Anyway, it really depends on your situation and what your future plans are. For us TTC was the best option and now that I'm PG the pregnancy is my temporary cure for the Endo. After the baby is born I will have to go on birth control pills to control the Endo though unfortunately. I probably will need another Lap done at some point, but hopefully it will be a long time from now. As far as the Endo the only symptom I had was pain during sex!
So like I said this probably will not help you much since we decided not to wait to TTC because of the Endo. In all honestly the Lupron scares me. I rarely take medicine to begin with. But if you're not going to be TTC anytime soon, it does help with the remaining Endo and you can hopefully start out "fresh" inside. If you don't want to take the Lupron the birth control pills are suppose to help supress the Endo. I don't know of any other options other than that. I hope everything works out for you.

Re: endometriosis
Hi
I was in the same boat as you. I never had symptoms just went for a check-up. I did the lupron for 6 months - the side effects weren't to bad - hot flashes and a little on the emotional side - they weren't life altering. I am bcp now to help shorten my af. I haven't had any problems.
If you have any questions you can fm me.
