Hey ladies! Today is cd 2 and I went in for blood work and all looked good so I'm starting the BCP tomorrow for 3 weeks. I have my water sono scheduled for Tuesday and then it's just the wait till the actual injections start! Im def a little nervous but excited at the same time! Anyone care to give some advice to an ivf newbie? Chat Icon

Numb the injection spots with ice before you inject. Someone told me that a few days into it and it made it so much easier.

Also stay on top of your phone. You will get instructions every day and you don't want to miss them. Once they accidentally didn't leave me a voice mail and I didn't realize it until after hours. It was a ***** to track down my instructions.

As overwhelming as the entire process is, it will fly by. Take each day as it comes. Only think about the injections that you need to do that day -- try not to look ahead and worry about how many shots you'll end up getting or for how long you'll need them. If you haven't already gotten your medication shipment, unpack everything and store what doesn't need to be refrigerated out of sight. I put all my meds in my linen closet and only took out each vial/syringe/etc. as I needed it and then went to the closet when my supply ended. This helped me not get overwhelmed and freak out looking at boxes upon boxes of meds. Stay on top of your schedule and make sure you adhere to all instructions given. If you aren't sure of something, call your office or IVF nurse and ask for clarification. Even if you think its something minor, call -- whether its to confirm an appointment time, or to double check on how to mix meds. Also, due to my BMI, all my shots had to be intramuscular to ensure they were properly absorbed. I had my IVF nurse draw 2 circles on my lower back/top butt area with sharpie markers and these were the "bulls-eyes" for where DH had to give me the injections. This took away some of the stress of injections, knowing that they were being given in the right spot. Good luck. I got my BFP from my 1st IVF cycle, and I hope the same is true for you. FM with any questions at all! I'm happy to help/answer any questions that I'm able to!

Thanks ladies!! I'll get my tentative schedule on Tuesday when I go in and my nurse said she can't order my meds until they get the pre approval from the insurance so I have a little bit of time until the craziness really starts! But you ladies made me feel better!!

It goes by so fast. Before you know it the cycle will be over. The injections aren't so bad once you get used to them. I HATE needles and have always been afraid but I had to suck it up and deal. Ask your Dr. any questions you have and be your best advocate. It will all be worth it.

The nurses are a great resource too. Don't be afraid to ask them questions. Every clinic is different but at mine they went over how to give the shots with me and I asked a ton of questions and even took some notes. But when I had questions throughout the process they were always willing to go over things again.
