Midtown coffee shops?
I need a coffee/dessert place, not a chain, near 49th and madison.
A bit of a walk is fine.
I was thinking of trying Bouchon Bakery in Columbus Circle but wanted other ideas too

Re: Midtown coffee shops?
There's also Boucon in Rock Center. There's a secret Dean and Deluca on 56 btwn 6 and 7 and they serve lunch. It's really nice in there, I swear people don' t know it's there! On 52 btwn 5 and 6 there's Macchiato, which is not a chain, they have excellent coffee and salads and sandwiches. A bit farther North there's Mangia on 57 btwn 5 and 6. There's also a pain quotidien on 53 btwn 5 and Madison.
HTH!
ETA: AND, how can I forget, but on Lex btwn 55 and 56 is Little Collins. Fantastic australian coffee shop.
One more: Cipriani Le Specialita on 42 across from Grand Central btwn Lex and Park. They have counters you can order coffee and dessert and or sandwiches and other specialties. There are a few tables inside for seating.

Re: Midtown coffee shops?
Thank you so much for your reply!
I was in Manhattan most of the weekend so we made a few stops . We did end up at Bouchon - the macaroons are to die for!
And - not really a coffee shop - Wafels and Dinges. Oh. My. God. . If I lived or worked anywhere near one of those I would be 400 pounds.
